National Development and Reform Commission: Firmly oppose the EU's imposition of tariffs on imported electric vehicles from China
The National Development and Reform Commission held a press conference in June today. Li Chao, spokesperson of the National Development and Reform Commission, said at the press conference that on June 12, the European Commission released a preliminary ruling on the anti-subsidy investigation of electric vehicles from China, proposing to impose temporary anti-subsidy duties on electric vehicles imported from China. This investigation disregards facts, rules, and pre-sets results. It is actually weaponizing and politicizing the investigation work, undermining fair competition in the name of fair competition. We firmly oppose this.
Practice has fully proved that short-sighted trade protectionism is not a solution, and flowers in a greenhouse cannot withstand wind and rain. The EU's imposition of tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China not only damages the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, but also hinders the long-term and healthy development of EU companies, and will disrupt and distort the global automotive industry chain and supply chain, including the EU; it not only damages the interests of EU consumers themselves and increases the EU's external dependence on fossil energy, but also undermines the EU's own green and low-carbon transformation process and the overall situation of global response to climate change. China actively supports automobile companies from all countries to participate in fair competition and maintain the stability of the global automotive industry chain and supply chain. We hope that the EU will think carefully and act prudently, respect basic economic laws and WTO rules, listen to the calls of the EU industry, correct wrong practices, and return to the right path of open cooperation and green development as soon as possible.
