More than 400 young people from Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macau compete in dragon boat racing
On June 16, the "Dream Enjoying Cup" 2024 First Shanghai-Hong Kong-Macao Youth Dragon Boat Invitational Tournament was successfully held in Shanghai International Tourism Resort. More than 400 young players from 28 dragon boat teams from Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macao participated in the competition. After fierce competition, the Municipal State-owned Assets Qide Longdong Team, Qingpu Shangshan Qingzhou Team, and Qingqixie Dragon Team won the first, second and third place respectively.
At the event, youth representatives from Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macao jointly issued the "Celebrate Chinese Festivals Well and Promote National Feelings" initiative, calling on young people from the three places to jointly promote the inheritance and development of China's excellent traditional culture and work together to help build a strong country.
Yan Tingxuan, a Hong Kong youth born after 1995, is a rower of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Tongxin Dragon Boat Team. In his opinion, the river in Guangzhou is narrower, requiring the players to have superb turning skills, while the dragon boat race on the lake in Shanghai emphasizes the team's concerted efforts and speed improvement. He is a graduate student at the School of International Relations and Public Policy of Fudan University and has participated in many youth exchange activities between Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macao. "This sports event has given me a deeper understanding of China's excellent traditional culture. I hope to participate in more activities and communicate with more young people in the future."
Macau youth Wu Xuwen believes that this event has built a platform for communication among young people from the three places. "Shanghai has a strong attraction for young talents from Hong Kong and Macau. I hope more young people from Macau will come to Shanghai to study."
Wang Yawen, a young man from Shanghai, is the drummer of the Financial Youth Boat Team. "I also met many outstanding young people from Hong Kong and Macao in this competition. During the intervals between competitions, we shared our lives, which deepened our understanding and enhanced our friendship."
The lake was exciting and the shore was also bustling. A "Fun and Enjoy the Dragon Boat Festival" waterfront market was set up at the event site, with a series of rich activities such as making sachets, handmade wormwood bouquets, lacquer fans, intangible cultural heritage sugar paintings, weaving colorful ropes, pitching pots, shooting five poisons, fishing for rice dumplings, etc. The viewing area brought together nearly 300 friends and relatives of the participating teams, of which four-fifths were young people, who personally felt the charm of Chinese traditional culture.
It is reported that the dragon boat invitational race and Dragon Boat Festival market activities are part of the series of activities of the Municipal Youth Federation's "China's Excellent Traditional Culture Promotion Season".
