Tianjin actively implements urban renewal actions to enhance development potential, optimize development space, promote continuous improvement of urban business types, functions and quality, and contribute to high-quality development.
In Tianjin, a number of livelihood projects transformed from idle buildings or land are being accelerated. In response to the problem of insufficient community living facilities, Hebei District transformed idle corporate yards into a livelihood service complex to facilitate the surrounding residents. Hexi District used idle corporate land to build affordable rental housing, which will meet the housing needs of 1,200 new citizens and young people after completion.

This higher education science and technology park, which relies on the advantages of universities such as Nankai University and Tianjin University and was built using idle buildings, has registered more than 1,800 companies in the fields of artificial intelligence, biomedicine, new energy and new materials since it was put into operation last year. By building a "handshake" channel for the transformation of university scientific and technological achievements and the park, it is accelerating the creation of a source of scientific and technological innovation. At present, a number of cutting-edge leading technologies such as brain-computer interfaces, femtosecond laser technology, and nanocellulose have been promoted to move out of the laboratory of the science and technology park and into the production line, further enhancing the potential and stamina of urban development.
Since the beginning of this year, Tianjin has introduced more than a dozen innovative measures, including the compound utilization of stock land, the allocation of planning indicators on demand, and the reuse of marginal land, to revitalize about 130 hectares of stock land. At the same time, a stock asset information collection system has been built to achieve full-cycle management of assets from idleness to revitalization, promote the construction of scientific and technological innovation and industrial renewal demonstration projects, and accelerate the development of new quality productivity.
