A century old store is not unchanged for a century, but constantly adapting to changes
The current complex changes in the world are full of uncertainty, and what difficulties have Chinese companies encountered? Ning Gaoning pointed out in his speech that there are trade, investment, and technological blockade.
"Complex changes are not an excuse for enterprises, and doing a good job is a rule." Ning Gaoning believes that world-class enterprises must adhere to international operations and will not become isolated economies due to so-called "changes.".
Change is a change in the competitive landscape and development model, and the Chinese economy will continue to be reshaped and restructured. Enterprises themselves must also achieve reshaping and restructuring. "A century old store is not an unchanging one, but an old store that constantly adapts to changes." Ning Gaoning said that good products are the only channel for enterprises to communicate with the market and society. "Good products can walk on their own, and good products can speak on their own. This is achieved through the efforts of all employees and the entire system.".
The most important thing for a first-class enterprise is technology. Ning Gaoning introduced that in 2018, Sinochem proposed "science first", placing science first. All businesses are mainly focused on innovative technology, and innovation and science are not side businesses. Science, technology, and innovative research and development correspond to the main business.

Are there any entrepreneurs in state-owned enterprises? Ning Gaoning said, "Of course there is." He believes that entrepreneurs, executives, management teams... should all have entrepreneurial spirit. "When you want to be an entrepreneur, you need to think about what impact you have had on society and the people around you, and whether you have changed anything. With so many resources in state-owned enterprises, as long as you have foresight for development, use resources, take risks, and create something, this is called entrepreneurial spirit."
During the conversation, Lu Xiongwen shared his own observation: the first generation of entrepreneurs are township entrepreneurs who "roll their pants", the second generation of entrepreneurs are entrepreneurs emerging during the reform period of "national retreat and people's advancement", and the third generation of entrepreneurs are Internet entrepreneurs, but most of them start their own businesses in order to get rid of poverty and become rich. Today's generation of "science and technology entrepreneurs" has added a sense of nostalgia, pursuing innovative breakthroughs to benefit society.
"This society needs both entrepreneurs and professional managers," said Lu Xiongwen. Currently, Fudan School of Management is vigorously promoting the science and technology innovation strategy, with the aim of enabling students to learn technological knowledge and understand the growth patterns and laws of technology enterprises. "In the future, starting a business with entrepreneurs is the direction we need to cultivate.".
How do state-owned enterprises overcome the difficulties of technological blockade in the era of science and technology innovation? Ning Gaoning stated that a comprehensive shift towards technological innovation enterprises is necessary. "Every unit and business of Sinochem Group now has a large research institute behind it. The research institute is the engine, the research institute is the strategy, and the research institute is the direction for the future."
