The number of murders in Seattle, USA has surged: 50 reported this year may set a new record
According to the Daily Mail on September 4th, the number of homicide cases in Seattle, Washington, USA has surged, with 50 reported cases this year, making it one of the top ten cities in the United States with a surge in reported homicide cases.
According to data released by the US Criminal Justice Commission, the number of homicides in Seattle increased by 7% in the first half of this year, expected to exceed the record of 69 homicides set in 1664. From 2019 to 2020, the number of homicides in Seattle increased by 63%, higher than New York's 3% and Chicago's 55%.
In 2022, Seattle had the highest number of homicides in 25 years, reaching 52. Seattle currently has an average of 6.5 homicides per month, and is expected to break this record in the remaining four months of this year.
The report states that the crisis is attributed to a lack of effective laws and police forces. Since the Seattle City Council began reducing funding for the police station, approximately 600 police officers have resigned from the department. In addition, Seattle is facing a homelessness crisis, with many mentally ill and drug addicted residents living on the streets, making it prone to dangerous events.
