The Education Bureau responded that there were over a hundred errors in the judgment of 60 test papers? Question on Misjudgment of Test Paper in a School in Jinan
Recently, parents of Long'ao School in Lixia District, Jinan City, Shandong Province, posted a video reflecting that in the final exam in June this year, the school had bias in grading certain students, and parents found a large number of grading errors in their math test papers. However, almost two months have passed and there has been no response yet. A staff member from the Education Bureau of Lixia District, Jinan City, stated that they have intervened in the investigation.
The child's grades are at the bottom, and parents require them to check their test papers
Mr. Zhang stated that his child is in third grade at the Longyuan branch campus of Long'ao School. According to its introduction, the school is a public nine-year consistent school with a total of 6 classes in third grade, including 4 classes on the main campus and 2 classes on the Longyuan branch campus.
Mr. Zhang is a member of the Parent Committee of Longyuan Branch of Long'ao School. He stated that his child works very hard in their studies and the school's math teachers are very serious in their teaching. I thought the children would do well in the final exams, but I didn't expect that after the exam results came out, the two classes on different campuses would finish last.
Mr. Zhang said that many parents do not understand this score. In order to figure out the reason, he and other parents approached the school and requested to refer to the math test paper for this final exam.
The test paper errors identified by parents
60 test papers with nearly 100 misjudgments and traces of falsification
Mr. Zhang said that under the continuous demands of the parents in the family committee, the school agreed to the requirement of checking the test papers. On July 10th, led by a vice principal surnamed Li, Mr. Zhang and five other parents reviewed all the final math exam papers for third grade.
In front of the school leaders, I carefully reviewed the exam papers of Class 2 and Class 3 in third grade because their math scores were the best in this final exam. However, the results of the review surprised the parents. Mr. Zhang stated that out of these more than 60 test papers, more than 100 grading errors were identified. In addition, there are some traces of modifying answers and the phenomenon of excessive scoring.
"The errors are still very obvious, for example, in a multiplication question where 80 is multiplied by 70, the correct answer should be 5600, and the answer written by the student is' 560 ', which also gives a score." Mr. Zhang also found that the test papers that did not answer the five major application questions were also considered passed, and the first half of this test paper was written by the child's handwriting, while the back of the test paper clearly showed "connected strokes" written by adults.
Parents have discovered more than one mistake, some of which are still low-level errors
"It's really an outrageous mistake. If it weren't for our parents' request for inspection, we wouldn't have known that grading was so irresponsible." Mr. Zhang said that on that day, the parents had been grading until evening and reported the issue to the Education and Sports Bureau of Lixia District, Jinan City.
At the same time, at the request of parents, the school sealed the math test papers for the third grade final exam and agreed with parents to reopen and re evaluate them together under their supervision.
A person in charge of the Education Bureau of Lixia District also stated that they will conduct an in-depth investigation into this matter. In addition, Mr. Zhang also took photos of over 200 test papers on site with his mobile phone to retain evidence for future verification when opening the envelopes.
Parents questioning the school's inaction. The Education Bureau has intervened in the investigation
Mr. Zhang said that at the parent grading scene, the explanation given by the school's relevant leaders was that the grading teacher was "careless" and caused it. But Mr. Zhang and some parents believe that this statement is difficult to convince, and the error rate in grading is so high that it is difficult to believe that it is unintentional.
As for why did the school make such a basic mistake? Mr. Zhang and his parents also expressed their doubts, for example, in this final exam, the papers for other subjects in the school were bound and judged according to the class, while only mathematics was bound according to the class.
At the same time, Mr. Zhang stated that there is a gap between the Longyuan branch campus and the main campus of Long'ao School in terms of school facilities, activity arrangements, teaching aids and funding. The red pens, chalk, and triangular rulers used by teachers in the branch campus are all purchased by parents, and the test papers used by children in daily life are also printed by parents. The school has a basketball court but no basketball rack, and parents believe that this is due to the school's differential treatment of different campuses. Mr. Zhang said that parents have also been expressing their demands to schools and education departments, demanding solutions to related issues, but more than two months have passed and no response has been received.
On September 5th, the top news reporter contacted Longao School, but the school's phone number remained unanswered. The reporter then contacted the Education and Sports Bureau of Lixia District, Jinan City. A staff member told the reporter that the public security department has intervened in the investigation, and other matters are not clear.
