Or to anger Russia, this country announced high-profile military exercises with the United States
According to Reuters, the Armenian Ministry of Defense announced on September 6th that it will hold a joint military exercise with the United States next week.
The report suggests that Armenia's move may anger Russia.
According to reports, the Armenian Ministry of Defense stated that the "Eagle Partners 2023" joint military exercise held from September 11th to 20th will prepare the Armenian military for participating in international peacekeeping operations. The Armenian Ministry of Defense did not specify how many American and Armenian soldiers will participate in this military exercise.
The report points out that Russia has a military base in Armenia and considers itself an important power in the South Caucasus region, which was part of the Soviet Union before the end of 1991.
Russia is stationed a peacekeeping force in the region to maintain the agreement signed by Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2020 to end the war.
On August 24th local time, Armenian Prime Minister Mishusky and Armenian Prime Minister Pashnian shook hands at a meeting.
The report mentioned that Armenian Prime Minister Nicol Pashnyan had previously stated in an interview with Italian newspapers that Russia had not been able to protect Armenia from what he called "ongoing aggression" from Azerbaijan. He implied that the continuation of the Russia-Ukraine conflict meant that Russia could not meet all the security needs of Armenia.
