Li Qiang Attends the 26th ASEAN, China, Japan, and South Korea Leaders Meeting
On the afternoon of September 6th local time, Chinese Premier Li Qiang attended the 26th ASEAN, China, Japan, and South Korea Leaders' Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Li Qiang stated that over the past 20 years, the 10+3 cooperation mechanism has gone through multiple crisis tests and played an important role in promoting regional development and prosperity. The more difficulties we encounter, the more we need to huddle together and work together. For 10+3 countries and even the entire Asian nation, we have a common home, common interests, and common opportunities. We must base ourselves on the overall interests of peaceful development in Asia, seek common ground while reserving differences, and seek to assimilate differences. We must continuously strengthen the foundation of cooperation in the 10+3 mechanism, jointly address various risks and challenges, work together to promote regional development, prosperity, and stability, and strive to build a community with a shared future in Asia.
Li Qiang pointed out that the current world has entered a new period of turbulence and transformation, and the global development cause is facing enormous challenges. We must always prioritize development in regional cooperation, eliminate various interferences, tap into the potential of cooperation, and strive to find a more stable, dynamic, and inclusive development path. China is willing to work with all parties to implement the new 10+3 Cooperation Work Plan as an opportunity, focusing on jointly building an economic growth center and focusing on three key tasks:
One is to continuously promote regional economic integration. We must continue to unleash the dividends of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, make greater efforts to promote the free flow of factors, and promote the expansion and upgrading of trade and investment. I hope all parties support Hong Kong as one of the first new members to join the agreement.
The second is to continuously deepen regional industrial division of labor and cooperation. We must uphold the spirit of open cooperation and mutual benefit, continue to leverage advantages such as geographical proximity and economic complementarity, and promote the optimization and upgrading of regional industrial and supply chains in a stable and smooth manner.
Thirdly, we will continue to strengthen the leadership and driving force of technological innovation. China is willing to deepen innovation cooperation in fields such as digital economy, clean energy, and new energy vehicles with all parties, jointly promote the development of emerging industries, and jointly cultivate more new economic growth points.
Li Qiang clarified China's position on the issue of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water discharge into the sea, stating that the disposal of nuclear contaminated water is related to the global marine ecological environment and public health. Japan should faithfully fulfill its international obligations, fully negotiate with neighboring countries and other stakeholders, and dispose of nuclear contaminated water in a responsible manner.
The attending leaders stated that the 10+3 cooperation has made important contributions to maintaining regional stability and promoting regional development. All parties should coordinate their actions, adhere to multilateralism, take the implementation of the new 10+3 Cooperation Work Plan as an opportunity, deepen cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, digital economy, green and low-carbon development, and work together to address global challenges such as climate change, energy, and food security, inject new impetus into regional stability and prosperity, and build East Asia into a center of peace and growth.
