CCTV News: Yuli County, Bazhou, Xinjiang is located on the northeast edge of the Taklamakan Desert and downstream of the Kongque River. Every year at this time, a portion of the ecological replenishment water from the main stream of the Tarim River is diverted through the Kongque River, which not only solves the problem of flood discharge during the Tarim River flood season, but also irrigates various crops in Yuli County and nourishes the villagers along the coast. In the past two days, the water flowing from the Tarim River has been replenishing the energy of Apocynacea in Dunkuotan Township.
Apocynum venetum is a perennial herbaceous plant with economic and ecological value, mainly growing in desert saline alkali land or on both sides of riverbanks. Yuli County is located in the lower reaches of the Kongque River, and with natural conditions such as long light exposure time and large temperature difference between day and night, it is very suitable for planting Apocynum venetum. At the Apocynum planting base, workers are harvesting Apocynum leaves, and they need to finish harvesting before the leaves turn yellow and fall off.
Starting from 2021, Yuli County has been artificially cultivating Apocynum venetum in the Taklamakan Desert through methods such as fence enclosure and flood irrigation. Through gradual exploration and practice, the artificial planting area of Apocynum venetum in the local area has expanded from 13000 acres last year to over 30000 acres today.
It is reported that Apocynum venetum has many uses. Its roots can be used as medicine, its leaves can be used to make tea, and its pollen can also be used to make honey. In the past two years, researchers have also extracted fibers from the stems of Apocynum venetum and made various types of knitwear.
In Gulebage Village, Gulebage Township, Yuli County, relying on the ecological replenishment of the Tarim River to improve saline alkali land, vegetable greenhouses have been built in the village, and a rural tourism road has been developed. Whenever night falls, on the square in the center of the village, villagers will showcase their skills, playing, singing, and dancing, creating a lively atmosphere.

With the addition of water, Yuli County expanded the planting of more than 3500 acres of oil crops and more than 3500 acres of vegetables last year.
