Drivers were deducted points by the platform for refusing to take overloaded orders? Huolala and Yunmanman were accused of condoning overloading
According to the China National Radio and Television Station's "News Panorama", recently, many freight drivers reported that on freight platforms such as Huolala and Manbang Group's Yunmanman, cargo owners often post overloaded orders. After accepting the order, the driver found that the cargo was overloaded and chose to refuse to deliver it, which may be deducted points by the platform. The cargo owner wants to spend the money of a small car to transport large trucks, but through the platform, the risk of overloading is passed on to the driver and the road. How can overloaded orders be posted at will on freight platforms?
At 6pm, in the cargo area of Shenzhen Baoan Airport, the driver, Master Chen, who was busy with his work, was unloading the cargo. This was his second order of the day. "I came back from Guangzhou in the morning and spent three hours in the afternoon looking at the orders. I called the customer service and they gave me the order because others couldn't deliver the cargo."
Mr. Chen's 4.2-meter high-sided truck has a rated load of only 1.5 tons. He said that generally, hauling 3 tons of cargo does not have much impact on driving, but there are too many overloaded orders that are heavier than 3 tons. "I just hauled a wooden box, which was more than 2 tons, which is over the limit. There are very few that are not over the limit. I was caught overloading once this year and was fined 2,000 yuan and deducted 6 points. I hope to haul one or two tons of cargo every day. The key is that the cargo owners, including the platform, use big data, and there is no other way."
Just a few minutes later, an order for 12 tons came in, requiring a 4.2-meter truck to transport it.
Mr. Chen: Look here, 12 tons, do you see it?
Mr. Chen: Who dares to take it? I can't pull it. I rarely take a 5-ton one. It's too dangerous. Overloading is risky. It will affect the braking distance, vehicle condition and other aspects. The heavier the load, the greater the danger.
Mr. Zhai, a driver from Baoding, Hebei, told reporters that he often encounters overloaded cargo orders on the Yunmanman APP, and the system should intercept such orders. "The truck cannot carry such a heavy tonnage. The truck is originally 4.2 meters long, but it is asked to carry 10 to 11 tons. The freight platform should not allow such cargo to be shipped."

There are many such overloaded orders on the Huolala platform, and a large number of drivers have reported through Black Cat that they will be deducted points if they refuse to overload.
Mr. Wei from Xuchang, Henan, told reporters that he often encounters overloaded orders on Huolala, because not all orders will display the goods and weight when grabbing orders. After communication, he found that overloaded orders and refusal to transport goods are often deducted points by the system. Mr. Wei drives a 4.2-meter truck. A cargo owner asked him to pull a pipe that was more than 6 meters long. After refusing to load, Mr. Wei deliberately took pictures of the overlong goods and uploaded them to the platform, but he was still convicted of "arbitrary cancellation of the order" and deducted 5 behavioral points. "It's overlong and overweight. Pulling a 6-meter-long pipe and some relatively overweight parts, I said it was definitely not possible and unsafe. The other party said that if it is not possible, cancel the order, and then Huolala will judge me responsible."
Mr. Wei said that the common blue-plate 4.2-meter medium-sized trucks have a rated load of about 1.5 tons. On platforms such as Yunmanman and Huolala, it is also marked that they can carry no more than 2 tons of goods, but in fact overloading is very common, and cargo owners hope to use smaller models to carry more goods. "As long as we use medium-sized trucks, the possibility of not overloading is very small, and we have no choice. For example, all platforms use 4.2 meters, and they all send orders for 2 tons, 3 tons, or even 4 tons, which are basically overloaded. The cargo owners know that it is overloaded, but there is nothing they can do."
Mr. Zhang from Zhuzhou, Hunan told reporters that once Huolala deducts behavior points, it will at least affect his ability to get orders, and at worst it will affect his cash withdrawals. Although drivers will not be deducted points every time they refuse to accept overloaded orders, the drivers around them have all experienced points deducted.
Mr. Zhang said: "5 points are deducted at a time. For every 1 point increase, you need to complete 10 customer orders, which is equivalent to 5 points being deducted. It may not be able to increase back in this month. If the points are deducted continuously below 80, withdrawals will be restricted. If you don't overload, you will have no work to do. The other party also acquiesces to overloading. If you cancel the order because of this problem, you will be deducted points. It depends on luck."
Driver Mr. Bao was once fined points for refusing to transport dangerous goods.
Mr. Bao said: "A customer called me and asked me to pick up paint. I asked if it was water-based or oil-based. They said it was oil-based dangerous goods. I said they couldn't pick it up. Then the customer asked me to cancel the order, so I reported it. Now they are holding me responsible. Our ordinary vans can't pick up oil-based paint."

Mr. Li from Tianjin drives a small van. He believes that one of the reasons why overloaded orders are often encountered on freight platforms is that the freight fee is only calculated based on mileage, and the smaller the vehicle type, the cheaper the freight, which leads to cargo owners often sending the load of large trucks to small and medium-sized trucks.
Mr. Li said: "Using the money for a small truck to transport a large truck's goods, it should not be sent out. I have an order now, for glass from Sanhe to Guangyang, Langfang, 2.1 tons for 61 yuan, which must be overloaded. The order note was written by the customer. It should not be pushed to me, but there is no way, if I don't do it, I won't make money."
Mr. Xie, a driver from Changsha, Hunan, told reporters that he drives a medium-sized van for Huolala. Sometimes the cargo owners do not mark the weight of the goods, so he often rushes to grab orders for micro or small vans in order to avoid being fined for overloading. However, his medium-sized van is often overloaded when he grabs orders for micro vans.
Mr. Xie said: "There was no note on the order about the weight. It was just a mini van, and then I grabbed it. I called and the other party told me that it weighed two tons. If it was a mini van, it would be seriously overloaded. I have a medium-sized van, which can only carry about 1.5 tons, which is also overloaded. I asked the owner to cancel the order, and then Huolala asked me to take responsibility. It was useless to appeal. The freight for a mini van is more than 40 yuan, and the freight for a medium-sized van is at least half of that, more than 80 yuan."
Mr. Zhang, a driver in Zhuzhou, Hunan, also reported that small trucks were trying to grab orders for micro-trucks, but the orders were still overloaded.
Mr. Zhang said: "Now the cargo owners basically place orders for mini trucks. There are no orders for small trucks anymore. We have to accept orders for mini trucks, which basically start at 1.5 tons. Now 3.6-meter trucks are pulling 6-meter-long pipes. The cargo owners only order 3.6-meter trucks. 4.2-meter trucks are expensive, and ordering 6-meter trucks is even more impossible. But if we don't accept the orders, basically there will be no more orders in the future."
The reporter consulted two cargo owners who often use online freight platforms to ship goods. Ms. Li runs a factory in Yangzhou, Jiangsu. She knows that seven or eight tons of cargo may be overloaded, but since the driver can pull it, she thinks it should be fine.

Ms. Li said: "For example, some 4.2-meter vehicles, although the actual standard load is 2 tons, few people say that they only load 2 tons directly. The normal load is 7 or 8 tons, but sometimes they are on the highway, so they definitely do not meet the standard."
Ms. Li also said that she had encountered such a situation on Huolala: someone grabbed the order and then transferred it to other freight platforms, and used a smaller vehicle and cheaper fee to transport the goods, making a profit from the price difference. The driver, vehicle and order of the cargo owner did not match, and if the cargo owner refused to ship the goods, disputes such as empty driving fees might arise.
Ms. Li said: "After my order was snatched away, it was not this driver at all, but the driver of the platform. They did not fulfill their supervisory responsibilities. For example, when entering the platform, there should be a strict review process for drivers, and people will feel at ease to hand over the goods to you, because the freight for one trip is not much, but the value of my batch of goods is very high."
Mr. Zhao, who runs a scrap metal business in Shenzhen, told reporters that their goods are very heavy, and they usually order large trucks to transport seven or eight tons of goods. He has encountered situations where drivers drove medium-sized trucks to transport goods.
Mr. Zhao said: "The boss requires that if the vehicle is overloaded, it cannot be pulled randomly. If it is detained, it will delay the time. The drivers all said that there is no problem, they often run the route. If it is over 12 tons, a 6.8-meter vehicle is needed. Many owners of 4.2-meter vehicles accept orders. If you only need a 4.2-meter vehicle or a 6.8-meter vehicle, you can choose when placing an order on the platform. If no one accepts the order, the platform will call and suggest changing the model to give more choices."
In addition, Mr. Zhao also encountered many "freight scalpers" and the orders he placed were resold.
Mr. Zhao said: "After he grabbed the order, he would find the corresponding driver from other platforms to help transport the goods, and then make a profit from the price difference. I canceled the order, but he wouldn't let me, saying there would be an empty load fee. For example, if the freight fee for this order is 1,000 yuan, he needs to make 100 or 200 yuan, so he has to reduce the model to make the profit. For example, if I need a 4.2-meter car, he may reduce it to an Iveco."

The reporter called the customer service of Lalamove, who said that Lalamove has clear requirements that medium-sized vans cannot carry more than 1.2 tons, and 4.2-meter medium-sized trucks cannot carry more than 2 tons. "Medium-sized vans weigh 0.8 tons to 1.2 tons, and our platform does not allow vehicles weighing more than 1.2 tons. 4.2-meter trucks weigh 1.5 tons to 2 tons, and vehicles weighing more than that cannot be carried. This involves safety issues. If the weight is noted or not, and the actual weight exceeds the limit, the platform driver can negotiate with the user, refuse to deliver, and cancel the order. This is fine."
The reporter tried to place an order as the cargo owner and found that he could enter the cargo weight and choose the vehicle type at will. Even if he entered 11 tons of cargo, he could choose a 4.2-meter medium-sized truck or a small van to place an order.
According to the Yunmanman APP under Manbang Group, the rated load of a 4.2-meter medium-sized truck is 1.5 tons to 2 tons, and the maximum load of a 1.8-meter van is 0.8 tons. However, the reporter found that if you choose goods within 13 tons, you can send them to a 4.2-meter medium-sized truck. The system will prompt "There is an overload risk, please choose a vehicle reasonably", but you can still place an order, and even place an order for 13 tons of goods for a 1.8-meter van. Only when the goods exceed 14 tons will you be forced to choose a vehicle longer than 6.8 meters.
A Manbang customer service representative told the reporter that the platform does not have a clear standard for how much cargo a vehicle can carry, and communication between the cargo owner and the driver is required.
Manbang Customer Service A: According to the regulations of the transportation industry, we cannot carry too many vehicles, but some drivers do not carry vehicles according to the corresponding standards in order to support their families. It does not mean that overloaded vehicles can be carried. This requires communication between the two parties. After the communication, if both parties agree to carry the vehicles, then they can carry them normally.
Manbang Customer Service A: The platform does not have clear standards.
Manbang Customer Service B: You can discuss it with the master.

Manbang Customer Service B: The platform will not judge, so it is best not to overload.
Freight platforms cannot become a breeding ground for overloading. Regulatory authorities should increase supervision efforts, urge platforms to establish and improve cargo review mechanisms, strictly screen overloaded orders, and maintain the healthy and orderly development of the logistics industry.
