Xi Jinping meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin
On the evening of July 3rd local time, President Xi Jinping met with Russian President Vladimir Putin before attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Astana.
Xi Jinping pointed out that in May this year, President Putin successfully paid a state visit to China. At the important historical node of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, we jointly made plans and arrangements for the next step of the development of bilateral relations. In the face of the changing international situation, the two sides should continue to uphold the original intention of friendship for generations, stick to the perseverance of benefiting the people, constantly cultivate the unique value of China-Russia relations, tap the endogenous driving force of cooperation between the two countries, and make new efforts to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the two countries and the basic norms of international relations.
Xi Jinping stressed that China and Russia should continue to strengthen the alignment of development strategies and international strategic cooperation. China supports Russia in fulfilling its responsibilities as the rotating presidency of the BRICS, uniting the "global South", preventing a "new Cold War", and opposing illegal unilateral sanctions and hegemonism. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Astana Summit will be held tomorrow. China looks forward to working with Russia and all member states to promote the steady and long-term development of the organization and build a closer community of shared future for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. China and Russia should continue to strengthen comprehensive strategic cooperation, oppose external interference, and jointly maintain peace and stability in the region.
Putin expressed his gratitude to President Xi Jinping for his warm reception of his state visit to China in May this year. We jointly celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China and made plans for the future development of Russia-China relations. At present, Russia-China relations are at their highest level in history. The two sides respect each other, are equal and mutually beneficial. Russia-China relations are non-aligned and do not target third parties, which is in line with the well-being of the people of the two countries. Russia supports China in safeguarding its core interests and legitimate rights and interests, and opposes external forces interfering in China's internal affairs and meddling in the South China Sea issue. China is about to take over the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Russia will fully support China's work and, together with other member states, continuously enhance the international influence of the organization, maintain regional peace and security, and promote the development of the international system in a more just and reasonable direction. As the rotating presidency of the BRICS this year, Russia looks forward to strengthening communication and cooperation with China on BRICS cooperation.
The two heads of state also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern. Xi Jinping stressed that China has always stood on the right side of history, insisted on promoting peace and dialogue, and is willing to continue to make positive efforts to promote the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis and other regional hot issues.
