ASTANA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Azerbaijani President Aliyev in Astana on the afternoon of July 3 local time before attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Azerbaijan are good friends with sincere mutual trust and good partners of equality and mutual benefit. China-Azerbaijan relations have always developed in a healthy and stable manner. The cooperation between the two countries has achieved fruitful results and the strategic connotation has become richer. We have upgraded the positioning of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, which is a new positioning and a new starting point. The two sides should continue to support each other and better benefit the people of the two countries.
Xi Jinping stressed that China firmly supports Afghanistan in safeguarding its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and supports Afghanistan in taking a development path that suits its national conditions. The two sides should promote high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road", deepen cooperation in trade, investment, oil and gas, photovoltaics and other fields, strengthen connectivity, build a good trans-Caspian international transport corridor, and ensure the healthy and stable operation of China-Europe trains. The two sides should carry out more exchanges in education, culture, tourism, youth, local areas and other fields to consolidate the public opinion basis for China-Afghanistan friendship. China supports Afghanistan in hosting the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and is willing to work with Afghanistan to advocate an equal and orderly world multipolarization and inclusive economic globalization, and promote world peace, stability and development.

Aliyev said that Afghanistan and China are good partners. The two countries maintain close exchanges at all levels and departments. The bilateral trade volume continues to increase. They firmly support each other in safeguarding their independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity in international organizations. Today we issued a joint statement and jointly announced the establishment of a strategic partnership between Afghanistan and China, which is of great significance to the development of bilateral relations. Afghanistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle and firmly supports China in achieving national reunification. This is a historical trend that no force can stop. Afghanistan is willing to strengthen unity and cooperation with China, tap potential, strengthen cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, new energy, humanities, etc. within the framework of jointly building the "Belt and Road", and closely cooperate within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other frameworks, oppose external interference, and maintain regional security and stability.
The two sides issued the "Joint Statement on the Establishment of Strategic Partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Azerbaijan".
Relevant departments of both sides signed cooperation documents on jointly building the "Belt and Road" and connectivity.
