The Grand Guangming Cinema, founded in 1928, is undergoing a digital transformation. Recently, the newly created smart tourism immersive experience new space "Da Guangming Historical and Cultural Corridor" and the digital light and shadow restaurant "Midnight MIDNITE" were unveiled. Artists from the China Symphony Orchestra presented a special concert for "Midnight". The reporter learned from the opening ceremony that the "MIDNITE" light and shadow restaurant is expected to open in June.

No. 248 West Nanjing Road has put up a new store sign for the "Midnight MIDNITE" light and shadow restaurant. This place was originally an evacuation passage after the movie, but now it has become a new space with a fashionable atmosphere. The approximately 100-meter-long "Da Guangming Historical and Cultural Corridor" light and shadow corridor will also be upgraded with diverse and contemporary digital expressions to create a readable building and build a "new space for immersive experience in urban smart tourism." In the three digital chapters, the audience will explore major events from the birth of cinema in 1928 to the present from different angles and in different forms.

Climbing up the century-old spiral staircase of the Grand Guangming Cinema from the first floor, you can see the light art installation "Century of Glory" hanging in the sky. The shape of "A Hundred Years of Glory" is derived from film. The work integrates lighting and music. As the notes beat, the lights dance and change in the space, as if recording the century-old glory of the Grand Guangming Cinema.

Going up to the third floor, there is a panoramic terrace with an area of 600 square meters. It overlooks the People's Park and is called "the most beautiful terrace on Nanjing Road". On the night of the opening event, the China Symphony Orchestra performed a concert on the 360-degree transparent center stage. In the "Film Shooting Journey", participants have to choose a position among screenwriting, storyboarding, actors, photography, editing, and color correction. Upon arrival, a "director" will invite participants of the "filming" to sit down with them. During the meal, different positions will work together to "create" a movie exclusive to the participants. For example, the screenwriter can interact with the typewriter to show the birth of a script; the actor can create his own virtual person on the desktop to vividly interpret the story; the colorist can interact with the entire story by decorating the food with different colors... When the ending song played, the names of all the guests were displayed in the credits.

At the recent opening event, reporters had a taste of the "pilot clip" of the "film shooting trip". Entering the immersive space where light and shadow interweave, a staff member who calls himself "movie assistant director" gathered everyone together to make suggestions for the upcoming "project" of the restaurant's movie of the same name. Opening the door of the "studio" is like walking into an art museum exhibition hall immersed in light and shadow. The light and shadow of film are rolling around the walls and on the dining table and plates. The "movie director" imagined, "Perhaps you can shoot a suspense movie here. It will be very satisfying to eat in a suspenseful atmosphere; or you can shoot an action movie, and it will be very enjoyable to fight while eating."

Dialogue between the Dragon and the Lion: How to "mess up" the first official diplomatic contact between China and the UK? | Event | China and the UK

In 1793, the Macartney Mission's visit to China was the first formal diplomatic contact between China and Britain. For a considerable period of time, people's understanding of this event was generally: "The political and economic structures of China and Britain are completely different, and the governments of both countries have adopted a tenacious and uncompromising attitude of resistance in order to maintain their social systems and historical traditions." The occurrence and development of diplomatic events have an unavoidable factor - translation. When British people send missions to China, there will inevitably be language barriers. In order for the mission to effectively communicate with the Qing court, it must rely on translation, which means that translation is an important element of the mission's activities in China. What role did translation play in the Marco Polo delegation's visit to China? What is the significance of understanding this event for us? Professor Wang Hongzhi, Emeritus of the Department of Translation at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, has written a new book titled "Dialogue between Dragons and Lions"
