The "Belt and Road" initiative has promoted the reform of the global governance system, become a new important international public product, and created a new global development situation of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits.
How does the “One Belt, One Road” initiative achieve “extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits”?
Professor Sheng Bin, Vice President of Nankai University, gave a speech titled "The World Significance and Enlightenment of the 'Belt and Road Initiative' on Regional Economic Cooperation". He first comparatively studied the evolution of regional economic cooperation models from traditional models to new models and found that "One Belt and One Road" "One Road" has the advantages of eliminating barriers and integrating regulations, and promotes regional cooperation. Secondly, he analyzed the design and implementation of the “Belt and Road” from the aspects of construction goals, cooperation content, development routes, cooperation mechanisms, domestic regional positioning, etc., and pointed out that the “Belt and Road” not only solved the economic development of the destination country, but also to a certain extent It has solved local livelihood issues such as employment and education. Finally, he also emphasized that the “Belt and Road Initiative” should adhere to interconnection, implement sustainable development, and embody China’s successful experience and characteristic elements into a new regional development model.
The Belt and Road Initiative effectively improves global supply chain security
Professor Luo Yuanyuan of Fudan University gave a report titled "The Belt and Road Initiative and Supply Chain Reconstruction", using a combination of supply chain network analysis and empirical evidence to conduct an in-depth analysis of the impact of the Belt and Road Initiative on the global supply chain. . In the data analysis, it was found that after 2018, the global supply chain showed signs of disconnection and contraction. Among them, compared with non-"Belt and Road" countries, the importance of "Belt and Road" participating countries in the global supply network has increased, and their supply chain relationships with China have strengthened. Empirical analysis shows that the “One Belt, One Road” initiative has not only increased the share of participating countries’ imports from China, but also increased the share of countries around the world’s imports from “One Belt, One Road” participating countries. The study also found that the “One Belt, One Road” initiative is an important support for the diversification of global supply chains and improves the security of global supply chains.
The Belt and Road Initiative is more than just a strategic vision
In his speech, Professor Du Julan of the Chinese University of Hong Kong believed that the “Belt and Road Initiative” is not just a huge aid project. Many projects under the Belt and Road Initiative were launched long before the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed, and some projects were completed before the initiative was launched. By building an empirical framework, the analysis concludes that regions with "One Belt, One Road" corridors and branch plans have benefited the most from Chinese investment, mainly in East Asia and West Asia.
National capabilities are the key to the stable and long-term implementation of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative
Professor Zhao Hongjun of Shanghai Normal University believed in his speech that in the past 20 years, the proportion of foreign direct investment in developing countries represented by China in the world's FDI has gradually increased. By studying China's foreign direct investment in 148 countries or regions, it was found that natural disasters will significantly affect China's foreign direct investment, and strong national capabilities can effectively mitigate the negative impacts of natural disasters. The study also found that China, like most economies in the world, tends to conduct FDI in areas with large markets, cheap labor and more stable societies.
The Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences weighed in on the researcher's report titled "The Development of the 'Belt and Road' Initiative in the Ten Years: Coordinated Development of Internal and External Opening and Theoretical Innovation".
