On May 31st, according to the respiratory virus monitoring system of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States, since the spring of this year, the human leaning lung virus has shown a high incidence trend in various regions of the United States, and the virus is ravaging the intensive care units and pediatric hospitals in major hospitals.
Human leaning lung virus, there have been reports in China!
On June 3rd, the chief physician of the Infection Control Center of a tertiary hospital told People's Daily Health Client that Li Dong, the chief physician of the Infection Comprehensive Department of Beijing You'an Hospital, had warned: "This virus is not a new virus. It has appeared in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Finland, Australia, Canada, Kenya, Norway and other places. Children have also been found to be infected with this virus in Beijing, Chongqing, Shenzhen and other places in China. The global burden of infection is high, and there is currently no specialized antiviral therapy to treat human metapneumonia virus, nor is there a vaccine to prevent human metapneumonia virus. Don't be overly anxious about this virus. Human metapneumonia virus infection is similar to other respiratory infections caused by the virus, and it can be prevented in daily life."
What is human lung virus?
Li Dong once introduced, "Human lung viruses are a single stranded negative stranded RNA virus, which is one of the main pathogens causing acute lower respiratory tract infections in humans. It can cause upper and lower respiratory tract infections in all age groups. Most recurrent infections are asymptomatic, but symptomatic infections mostly occur in young children or the elderly. In the elderly, those with potential lung diseases, and those with low immune function, serious symptomatic diseases may also occur. HMPV infections are common and seasonal, such as in the United States, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Finland, which mostly occur in late winter and early spring, while in Hong Kong, China, which mostly occurs in late spring and summer."
A study released by The Lancet Global Health in 2020 estimated that in 2018, more than 14 million children under the age of 5 were infected with HMPV virus, with over 600000 hospitalized and over 16000 deaths.
According to a 13 year study based on 9 provinces in China, 5-year-old children are the main population affected by HMPV, with a detection rate of 3.1%. HMPV can cause isolated infections or co infections with other respiratory viruses, and co infection with HMPV may increase the risk of pneumonia in children.
What is the mode of transmission of human lung viruses?
Zhang Yongsheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Pulmonary Disease Branch of the Chinese Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chief Physician of the Famous Medical Hall of Dongfang Hospital, Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, told People's Daily Health Client reporters that human pulmonary viruses are transmitted through direct or close contact with contaminated secretions, mainly through human to human contact. The most common transmission routes are droplet transmission and contact transmission, such as contact with secretions excreted by patients coughing and sneezing, or touching patients' limbs, such as shaking hands, and touching objects or surfaces with viruses that come into contact with mucous membranes, such as eyes and nose.
How to prevent human lung viruses?
At present, there is no specific therapy for human lung viruses, nor is there a vaccine for this virus infection.
Zhang Yongsheng mentioned, "The most effective prevention method is to cut off the transmission route, wear a mask, wash hands frequently, and do a good six step washing technique to avoid touching the eyes, nose, etc. without washing hands. At the same time, it is necessary to increase one's own immunity. Patients with chronic diseases should pay attention to less crowded places, and if necessary, take traditional Chinese medicine to tonify qi and strengthen the body's ability to resist evil. If there is any discomfort, it is necessary to seek medical attention in a timely manner."
The chief physician of the above-mentioned infection control center suggests that patients with fever and respiratory symptoms should pay attention to cough etiquette, and wear medical surgical masks when the condition allows to prevent transmission; Seek timely medical attention at the fever clinic. For those with obvious respiratory symptoms of fever, it is recommended to rest at home and manage the source of infection; Pay attention to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention's guidelines and recommendations for the prevention and control of acute respiratory infections.
Li Dong once reminded that if serious symptoms occur, such as difficulty breathing, or if it causes bronchitis or pneumonia, infection control measures targeting respiratory syncytial viruses, influenza, and other respiratory infectious diseases need to be used.
