All of it was stolen by former employees! Shanghai police arrested a thief from a married couple's stall, selling Muji products at a 20% discount online
"Are all your rooms stolen?" When the investigating police opened the door, they didn't expect that the suspect's home was piled up with thousands of stolen goods, which were still being sold in online stores. Recently, the Pudong Branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau cracked a theft case. The suspect was a couple who used the internal procedures they had learned during their work at MUJI to steal more than 3100 items. They also targeted the store for theft through purchasing agents based on customer needs.
Stolen goods seized by the police
On August 13th, a MUJI store in Pudong New Area, Shanghai discovered that some products had been stolen while counting their inventory. After reporting the case, the police identified two suspects by retrieving videos.

At the suspect's home, the police saw over a thousand pieces of clothing and various items stacked inside the house, all of which were products of MUJI. The suspect claimed to be a brand agent.
"After being brought to justice, the suspect Liu claimed that he and his wife, Zuo, both had serious jobs. Liu had previously worked in a store of the brand, but resigned after having an unpleasant relationship with the store manager. He wanted to retaliate against the other party." The investigating police explained that Liu was familiar with the shopping process in the store and was also aware of the "blind spots" in the store's technical defense facilities. So, the couple cooperated and used the brand's packaging bags left at home to evade video surveillance and successfully stole some clothes from the store.
Liu claimed that due to the wide variety of business categories in the store, after one successful attempt, the two of them stole the brand's various stores in Shanghai. Seeing more and more goods piled up at home, I finally opened an online store under the name of a brand agent and sold the brand's products at a 20% discount. Even if customers have a request, they will take advantage of weekends and holidays to go shopping, pick, steal, and then pack and send packages, until they are caught by the police.

The suspect hung the stolen goods online for sale
As of the incident, Liu and Zuo have sold more than 1700 stolen items online for over half a year, illegally profiting 260000 yuan. However, they have accumulated more than 1400 unsold stolen items in their homes, with the store estimated to be worth more than 200000 yuan. At present, the two individuals have been criminally detained by Pudong police on suspicion of theft.
