Journalist Observation | China Highlights China's New Security Initiative at the Shangri La Dialogue | Minister of Defense | China | Security
On June 2nd, the 20th Shangri La Dialogue opened in Singapore. During these three days of dialogue, the Chinese side emphasized China's security concept and new security initiatives.
CCTV reporter Tang Xin: This is the Shangri La Hotel in Singapore. Today is the last day of the entire dialogue, and one of the most closely watched agenda items today is the speech by Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu. The international community today is facing a complex security situation, with regional security hotspots constantly emerging, and local conflicts and turbulence also constantly occurring. The more such a situation is, the more it is necessary for all parties to be honest and actively work for the peace of humanity. Therefore, in recent days, the Chinese delegation has been at the Shangri La Hotel, attracting the attention of media reporters from around the world every time they appear. Often, we see reporters from more than ten or even dozens of domestic and foreign media gathering around a member of the Chinese delegation to ask questions. Therefore, how China elaborates on its security concept today, how to provide solutions from a Chinese perspective in the face of challenging international situations, and how to voice China's voice have always been important topics of concern for all parties during the entire Shangri La Dialogue.
This morning, Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu emphasized China's new security initiative in his speech. In summary, China has proposed that the international community now needs to replace bullying with mutual respect; Need to transcend jungle laws with fairness and justice; Need to use mutual trust and negotiation to eliminate confrontational conflicts; We need to use openness and inclusiveness to prevent confrontation between camps. These few sentences can be said to elaborate on China's proposition from a global perspective. Yesterday, US Defense Minister Austin said in a speech that the US does not seek confrontation or conflict, will not engage in an "Asia Pacific version of NATO" in the Asia Pacific region, and will not seek a new Cold War; But in fact, the focus of the US Defense Secretary's speech is to continue strengthening cooperation with allies and friends to safeguard their own interests, especially the presence of military strength in the Asia Pacific region. This kind of speech was also criticized after the meeting as inconsistent in words and actions, as pulling and beating each other.
Before the start of the Shangri La Dialogue, the Chinese delegation had informed us that China was here to make friends. However, if any country hypes up issues related to China, especially those related to China's territorial sovereignty and core interests, China will also retaliate.
Regarding the issue of the South China Sea, China once again emphasizes that freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, which is in line with the international legal framework, has never been a problem. On the contrary, some countries outside the region are using the name of "freedom of navigation" to exercise "navigation hegemony" and want to disrupt the South China Sea for profit. We need to be highly vigilant. In the face of the complex and ever-changing international situation with numerous challenges, Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu elaborated on China's views and called on all parties to work together to build a community with a shared future in the Asia Pacific region and jointly build a better Asia Pacific. This kind of call is actually the call of all countries in the Asia Pacific region. Only by strengthening dialogue and cooperation, and open communication to solve problems, can countries in the region embark on the right path for the future.
