On August 4th, 2023, the China Golf Association, SAIC General Motors Buick brand, and IMG Golf jointly announced that the 2023 Buick LPGA Championship will kick off from October 12th to 15th at Shanghai Qizhong Garden Golf Club. As the only international top-level professional golf tournament to open in China this year, the Buick LPGA Championship has made a strong comeback after three years, attracting the world's best female professional golfers to the grand event. Among them, Buick Golf Ambassadors Lin Xiyu, Yin Ruoning, and Liu Yu, who have achieved consecutive good results in international competitions this year, will also showcase their talents and perform an exciting peak match with the world's top female golfers.
The Buick LPGA Championship is the highest level women's golf event jointly created by the Buick brand and the American Women's Professional Golf Association LPGA. The competition format is a 72 hole stroke, with a total prize money of up to 2.1 million US dollars. This event was upgraded from the Buick Women's Golf Invitational, founded in 2014, and settled in Shanghai in 2018. It has officially obtained joint certification from the American Women's Professional Golf Association and the Chinese Women's Professional Golf Association. It is one of the highest level women's golf events in Asia and has been recognized by a large number of fans and top players. In the previous 2019 Buick LPGA Championship, a total of 81 world top female golfers from 17 countries and regions participated, including 7 players from the top 10 in the world rankings and 16 players who have won LPGA championships.
This year is a crucial year for preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympics. In this event, the Chinese women's golf players, who have the advantage of playing at home, will strive to achieve excellent results and accumulate energy for the national team to obtain admission tickets to the women's golf event at the Paris Olympics. Among them, Buick golf ambassador Yin Raning, who is only 20 years old, won the first grand slam championship in his career this year. He is the second player from Chinese Mainland to win the women's golf grand slam championship after Feng Shanshan in 2012, becoming a new leader in China's golf. Lin Xiyu and Liu Yu, who have also signed contracts with Buick brands, have also performed outstandingly this year. Lin Xiyu's highest ranking this year reached ninth in the world, entering the top ten for the first time. It is worth mentioning that at the end of September before the start of this year's Buick LPGA Championship, these three Buick Golf Ambassadors will serve as the main players of the Chinese women's golf national team and launch a full push for the gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
As one of the car brands with the longest association with golf, Buick has been committed to promoting and popularizing golf in China.
