Before the talks, Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan held a welcoming ceremony for Said and his wife Ishraf at the square outside the east gate of the Great Hall of the People.

The two heads of state ascended the reviewing stand, the military band played the national anthems of China and Tunisia, and a 21-gun salute was fired in Tiananmen Square.
