Reason announced, millions of farmed fish in Japan die
According to a report by Yomiuri Shimbun on the 7th, the Nagasaki Prefectural Government stated on the 6th that from late July to early August, a total of 1.1 million farmed fish such as pufferfish, big bamboo pod fish, and sea bream died in Orange Bay, Nagasaki Prefecture, with an estimated loss of over 1.3 billion yen.
The Nagasaki Prefectural Government stated that from July 31 to August 10, a red tide occurred in the Orange Bay area, causing a large number of harmful plankton to breed and resulting in the death of a large number of fish. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, Nagasaki Prefecture has the highest production of pufferfish aquatic products in Japan. The significant losses caused by this red tide are the "worst situation in history". The Japan Fisheries Agency stated that in the past 30 years, Japan has experienced a total of 11 red tide disasters that caused losses exceeding 1 billion yen, including this red tide.
On the 6th, the Governor of Nagasaki Prefecture and Mayor of Nagasaki City visited the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of General Affairs of Japan, demanding that the government compensate fishing personnel for losses and develop new technologies to prevent red tide disasters as soon as possible.
