Gabriel Merino, a professor at the National University of La Plata in Argentina, recently stated in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that military hegemony is an integral part of American hegemony. The United States is attempting to prevent the trend of multipolarity in the world by strengthening military hegemony, maintain its economic and political hegemonic position, and this has brought about a large number of conflicts and unstable factors on a global scale, hindering world peace and development, which has deeply affected Latin America and the Caribbean region.
On the 5th, Xinhua News Agency, a national high-end think tank, released a think tank report titled "The Roots, Reality, and Hazards of US Military Hegemony" to the world and multiple languages, and held an expert seminar. Merino attended the report release and seminar via video.
Merino said in an interview that the United States is the most belligerent country in the world because in its more than 240 year history, there have been less than 20 years without war. The United States has a military presence throughout the world, with hundreds of military bases in dozens of countries, and has launched multiple wars such as the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War, causing countless civilian casualties and economic losses, all of which are just to maintain its global hegemonic position.
Merino stated that Latin America and the Caribbean have been deeply harmed by American hegemony, and that the "Monroe Doctrine" proposed by the United States 200 years ago has still plagued the region. The United States still regards the region as its "backyard" and intervenes in its economic, trade, and political affairs. He said, "In order to maintain its control and hegemony over Latin America and the Caribbean, the United States has incited military coups and even direct military intervention in multiple Latin American countries. For example, the military coup against the democratically elected Allende government in Chile in 1973 was the result of American manipulation."
Merino said that the purpose of strengthening military hegemony by the United States is to maintain its economic hegemony. The current trend of multipolar development in the world pattern is evident, with cyclical outbreaks of capitalist economic crises. The United States' economic hegemonic position on a global scale is declining, and its political hegemonic position is also being challenged. The United States is strengthening its military hegemony to increase its influence on a global scale, attempting to restore and strengthen its hegemonic position globally and regionally. "This is a continuation of imperialism and colonialism," Merino said.
Merino stated that US military hegemony has brought a large number of conflicts and unstable factors to the world, hindering world peace and development. He said, "I believe that the trend of multipolar development in the world pattern is inevitable. If the United States uses force to prevent this development trend and maintain its hegemonic position, it will cause war and chaos on a global scale."
