Japanese people sue the Japanese government!, Nuclear contaminated water
According to Russian Sputnik News Agency on September 8, lawyers representing residents and fishermen of Fukushima Prefecture plan to file a lawsuit to the Fukushima District Court on September 8, asking the Japanese central government and the nuclear power plant operator to stop the discharge of nuclear contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
The plaintiff's lawyer stated at a press conference held in August that they will represent 100 people in filing a lawsuit. The plaintiff claims that the government and Tokyo Electric Power Company have twice harmed the interests of the people, first failing to prevent an accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in 2011, and now beginning to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the ocean.
The plaintiff plans to focus on a document from 2015. The document shows that the central government of Japan and Tokyo Electric Power Company have promised the Fishermen's Association that they will not start discharging nuclear contaminated water without the consent of all relevant personnel. Although almost the day before the release of nuclear contaminated water into the sea, the fishermen's association once again expressed opposition to this contaminated water treatment plan, the government still decided to start the discharge of nuclear contaminated water.
After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant was damaged in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Tokyo Electric Power Company adopted the method of injecting water into the nuclear reactor to cool it. Cooling water, contaminated rainwater, and groundwater are treated by multi nuclide removal equipment and stored in giant storage tanks, generating approximately 140 tons of new nuclear contaminated water every day.
The Japanese government officially decided in April 2021 to purify and dilute Fukushima nuclear contaminated water before discharging it into the sea. On August 24th this year, the Japanese government disregarded strong criticism and opposition from the international community and initiated the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea.
In addition, Jiji Press reported on September 7 that Tokyo Electric Power Company of Japan said that the first round of discharge of nuclear treated water from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station would end on September 11. The preparation work for the second round of emissions will start as early as the end of September.
