Hummingbird Talent Salon launched in Pudong, building a normalized and full lifecycle talent exchange system for biopharmaceuticals

On September 7th, the Hummingbird Talent Salon, consisting of industrial service institutions, universities and research institutes, enterprises, research organizations, and professional parks, with deep participation from market, health, drug supervision, and medical institutions, was officially launched in Pudong.
The establishment of this salon aims to build a normalized and full life cycle talent exchange system in the field of biomedicine, promote the cultivation of talents in the biomedicine industry, provide talent for biomedicine enterprises, and promote the high-quality development of the biomedicine industry.
Benchmarking against the highest standards and best levels, leading and driving the construction of the "Five Centers" in Shanghai, better serving the overall situation of the country and driving the implementation of the integrated development strategy of the Yangtze River Delta, Pudong New Area urgently needs more skilled talents to provide strong support for economic and social development, and to provide strong support for building a leading area for socialist modernization construction. As early as 2018, Pudong New Area has released 35 guidelines for talent development, incorporating the construction of skilled talent teams into the top-level design of talent work.

The reporter learned that the salon organizing committee has an office responsible for managing the daily affairs of the salon, and the permanent location of the executing agency is Shanghai Mingmai Education Technology Co., Ltd.
According to Zhang Xuelong, the principal of Shanghai Mingyu Education Vocational Skills Training School, the initiators of the first phase of the salon include industrial service institutions, universities and research institutes, enterprises, research organizations, professional parks and other related units. Professional institutions such as the Shanghai Biomedical Technology Development Center and the Shanghai Biomedical Industry Promotion Center, as well as universities such as Shanghai University of Health and Medicine and Shanghai Overseas Chinese Vocational and Technical University.
The participating companies include multinational leading companies such as Danaher Group, Shanghai Siemens Medical Devices, and local leading companies such as Shanghai Micro Innovation Group. Incubators and industrial bases in Waigaoqiao and Zhangjiang are also involved.
The first Hummingbird Talent Salon was held in the Waigaoqiao area. On site, Jin Yong, General Manager of Shanghai Waigaoqiao International Trade Operation Center Co., Ltd., introduced that in 2022, there were 496 medical device enterprises in the bonded area, with an import value of medical instruments and devices of 38.7 billion yuan, accounting for 40.3% of the national import value of similar goods. The medical device platform under the operation center company has also become one of the 60 "6-day+365 day" trading service platforms recognized by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce for the Shanghai International Import Expo. "In order to effectively cultivate and deliver the professional talents needed by enterprises, and provide solutions to the demand for talent retraining in the application side, the first medical device shortage talent training institution in Shanghai has been established on the service platform." Jin Yong said.
After the launch ceremony, the seminar on the current situation and solutions to the shortage of medical equipment talents was held simultaneously. At the meeting, the Shanghai Biomedical Technology Development Center, Shanghai Biomedical Industry Promotion Center, Pudong New Area Market Supervision Bureau, Pudong New Area Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, social organizations related to biopharmaceuticals, and heads of medical device enterprises discussed topics such as "Introduction to Shanghai Biomedical Industry Education and Training Platform," "Construction of Medical Device Innovation Talent Cultivation Mechanism," "Requirements of Regulations for Medical Device Practitioners," and "Building a Multi party Collaborative Medical Device Industry Talent Cultivation System.".
Li Jizong, Director of the Shanghai Biomedical Technology Development Center, believes that in response to the new round of talent cultivation model, the biopharmaceutical industry also needs to constantly transform. Talent introduction should not be based solely on qualifications and abilities, age and skills, or qualifications and levels. "Experimental driving is moving closer to data-driven approaches marked by 'big data+AI', and we need to pay more attention to new talents and interdisciplinary talents on the new track. The launch of the Hummingbird Talent Salon will help the industry gather consensus, explore the true needs of enterprises through in-depth discussions within the industry, and solve the problems faced by enterprises and talents."
On that day, in order to effectively solve the prominent problem of talent supply in the development of Shanghai's biopharmaceutical and high-performance medical device industry, Shanghai Mingyu Vocational Skills Training School also launched the "Medical Device Urgent and Shortage Talent Cultivation Project" on site, creating an online education and training platform in the medical device field, and carrying out unique special training camps.
It is reported that the special training camp will design different course contents for different positions such as medical device quality management system engineers, registration specialists, quality managers, management representatives, clinical application and evaluation, etc., to enhance the professional knowledge and practical abilities of in-service personnel.
