"China is not an enemy!" He wrote to the British Foreign Secretary
On September 6th, the Australian website "Pearl and Stimulus" published an article by Jerry Gray titled "The Chinese threat theories you hear are unfounded.". The full text is excerpted as follows:
Jerry Gray has served as the General Manager of a multinational security company in Australia for 17 years, worked and studied in China for nearly 20 years, and holds a Master's degree in cross-cultural exchange management. He currently resides in Guangdong. This article is an open letter he wrote to James Cleverley, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development of the United Kingdom.
Dear Mr. Cleverley
Although I am very pleased to see your visit to China proceed smoothly, I am disappointed with your farewell gesture. The last thing I want to see is the poor performance of the UK. I have many friends and family still living there.
You mentioned the challenges facing doing business with China, and I would like to share with you some information that may make you feel uneasy, as it is completely opposite to what you know.
I think I am unique in the foreign community in China. I have been to almost every province and region in China, but this is not the fundamental reason why I am unique. What truly sets me apart is that I have cycled over 30000 kilometers in China, without taking highways, all on regional roads.
My wife and I have witnessed the progress of rural towns, and those who have not witnessed the extremely beneficial and significant changes in China's rural areas have almost difficulty understanding the achievements China has made in the past 20 years.
It is this experience that makes us unique in the foreign community as a couple, and also makes us enthusiastic supporters of China and the ruling Communist Party.
I must admit that I have never seen a more coordinated and negotiated governance approach. This approach allows people to participate and benefit from it in ways that Western democracy advocates cannot imagine. When people ask me whether I support the CPC, my answer is yes. I support everything they have done that I have witnessed with my own eyes.
For 1.4 billion people, China is a much better place than any other country I have lived in or visited. Moreover, in fact, compared to when I came to China in 2004, it is also a more beautiful place.
Western media contemptuously described me as a retired security guard, a cyclist in China, a defender of Beijing, and various other names. However, I only speak based on experience and support it with research.
I can assure you that there is more very positive rather than negative information about China.
China has built various infrastructure, hospitals, schools, universities, and vocational schools. It has built more bridges, roads, and ports than any other country. It also has more high-speed trains and more frequent trains than any other country.
I can testify that 5G networks cover almost every part of China, which is incomparable to other countries. I have recently visited poverty reduction projects in Yunnan, Hunan, Sichuan, and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and have never encountered any network connection issues. My security has not been threatened.
China has a population of 1.4 billion, including 56 ethnic groups. A unified language is used nationwide, and each ethnic group and many regional communities use their own language in their daily lives.
Public places, road signs, and many other signs, including China's currency, clearly display this evidence.
In our lifetime, China has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty and now has a higher education enrollment rate of approximately 60%. Imagine that in the next generation, China will cultivate over 500 million higher education graduates.
China's life expectancy is the same as that of developed countries and has surpassed that of the United States.
To help other countries overcome the recent COVID-19 epidemic, China has provided vaccines, personal protective equipment and medical teams to many countries, more than any other country.
A recent poll of 32 countries showed that China has the highest ranking of happiness in the world. This is not surprising at all.
In short, all the statements you hear about China's threats are unfounded. And every fact stated here is verifiable.
China is not your enemy. Those who tell you that China is your enemy are your enemies.
