According to Taiwanese media, this "Han Kuang 40" military exercise is the highest-level, most-troop-participating, and most confrontational joint offensive and defensive combat series of exercises in the Taiwan military. It is also the first military test after the new leader of the DPP authorities took office and made personnel adjustments.
"This does not mean that the PLA has been abandoned as an 'imaginary enemy.'"
