On New Year's Day 2024, the first domestically produced large-scale cruise ship "Aida·Modu" departed from Wusongkou International Cruise Port in Baoshan, Shanghai, and embarked on its maiden commercial voyage. Our country has thus become the only country in the world that has gathered the "three pearls" of the shipbuilding industry.
How difficult is it to build the "Ada Mordor"? What does it feel like to do something with all your strength? How do individuals and collectives go both ways? How difficult is it to build the "Ada Mordor"?
Large cruise ships are known as the “dazzling jewel in the crown” of the shipbuilding industry. Their complexity and technical content are among the highest among giant system projects. "Aida·Modu" is 323.6 meters long and 37.2 meters wide. It has more than 150,000 design drawings and weighs 2.1 tons. The number of parts on the whole ship reaches 25 million, which is equivalent to five times of the C919 large aircraft. 13 times that of the high-speed rail, and 4,750 kilometers of cables have been completed, which is approximately the distance from Shanghai to Lhasa. Behind these numbers are countless trials and modifications.

The difficulty of construction lies not only in the vastness of the project, but also in lean management. The completion management software we introduced in the early days had a low informatization level, so we decided to develop a completion management system with independent intellectual property rights.
How to arrange the outfitting in a limited space is also a difficult problem during the construction process. "Aida·Modu" has 670 segments and 74 total segments, which requires careful assembly and splicing piece by piece.
We are facing all kinds of new problems and new difficulties every day.
We cross the river by feeling the stones and always rush to the frontier of the most difficult research. Never give up until you reach your goal!
In the best time of youth, there is such a project that can make you go all out and become the shining point of your life when you look back in the future.
In 2022, the team received an email from the shipowner: "According to relevant specification requirements, the 'Aida·Modu' must be delivered by the end of 2023 to meet the specification requirements, otherwise the delivery will not be completed." In other words, If the construction period is delayed, the team will need to cut and lengthen the cruise ship again and do a lot of rework.
At that time, everyone was questioning, saying that we were too late to meet the construction deadline; under tremendous pressure, in June 2022, we formulated four "120-day fight" plans. In order to solve the difficulties, we adopted a "two-shift" labor competition, and a team of 76 people established multiple youth commando teams.
My team and I continued to improve the debugging logic, and pioneered the debugging and management methods for cruise ship automation, air conditioning and ventilation, and safe return to port, ultimately ensuring that large cruise ships can be continuously loaded in the dock and the entire ship is connected.
From large segments to small parts, the weight control effect is here. In June 2023, after 6 days of water injection, floating, displacement and undocking operations, the cruise ship construction completed the key node of undocking with over 93% of the overall project progress and exquisite painting.
More than 1,000 people participated in the first sea trial. Every step and every detail may affect the success or failure of the sea trial. I didn’t even sleep for the next few days! More than 1,000 people fought vigorously day and night, and everything turned into pride at the last moment.
In 2019, I took the initiative to work on a large project to gain experience. I can stay in my comfort zone with ease, but young people have to accept new challenges. Maybe every day's work was certain before, but in this project, there are many unknowns.
The project I am responsible for involves 102 large engineering packages. Design, procurement, construction, debugging, and finally after-sales service all need to be understood. Each link requires communication and cooperation. One person's power is always limited, and only by working together can the task be successfully completed.
I have participated in the construction of the first large-scale cruise ship since I joined the company. We have also transformed from spectators of various large-scale projects to actors and promoters, which is of great significance to our youth.
Achieving zero breakthrough in the field of large-scale cruise ship construction in my country and moving from a major shipbuilding country to a powerful shipbuilding country. This honor and mission have ignited our infinite motivation and passion. During the construction of "Aida Modulu", we have made breakthroughs in a number of core technologies, broken the international technology monopoly, established a large-scale cruise standard system with more than 1,400 standards at all levels from scratch; pioneered complex giant system engineering management Model model.
