Passport revoked! Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds to fugitive Nathan Law Kwun-chung
On June 12, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian hosted a regular press conference.
A reporter asked: The Hong Kong SAR government said today that it has revoked the passports of six wanted criminals living in exile in the UK. These people were accused of inciting secession and colluding with foreign countries. What comments does the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have on the Hong Kong SAR government's decision today?
Lin Jian's profile picture. Lin Jian said that Nathan Law Kwun-chung and others have long been engaged in anti-China and Hong Kong-disrupting activities. Their bad behavior seriously endangers national security, seriously damages the fundamental interests of Hong Kong, and seriously impacts the bottom line of "one country, two systems". The Hong Kong police's measures against them in accordance with the Hong Kong National Security Ordinance are a legitimate and necessary move to maintain the rule of law in Hong Kong and defend national security. They are reasonable and legal.
"I would like to reiterate that Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs and no external forces are allowed to interfere," said Lin Jian.
According to the reward notice previously issued by the Hong Kong Police Force, Nathan Law is suspected of inciting secession and colluding with foreign or external forces to endanger national security. The suspects advocated "Hong Kong independence" through various platforms overseas, including social platforms, news media, and public gatherings. They colluded with anti-China politicians and organizations to carry out work, including attending so-called hearings in foreign countries and official occasions to request foreign countries to impose sanctions and other hostile acts on China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Law left Hong Kong on June 27, 2020.
