Huang Baomei led 75 advanced model workers and front-line workers to launch an initiative, and Yangpu held a May Day Labor Award commendation event
The Yangpu District 2024 May Day Labor Award commendation and publicity event was held at the Hudong Workers Cultural Palace to commend advanced representatives, promote the deeds of model workers, and praise workers.
In 1953, Huang Baomei from Yangpu, an outstanding representative of New China's textile workers, was named the first "National Model Worker." Today, 70 years later, Peng Yan, a young employee born in the 1990s who was also from Yangpu, defeated more than 30,000 competitors in the national network security industry vocational skills competition and won the 2024 "National May Day Labor Medal".
The event turned the award ceremony into a story stage. Zhang Hong, general manager of Changyang Chuanggu, Ni Jiahui, deputy captain of the mobile brigade of the traffic police detachment of the Yangpu Public Security Bureau, Chen Hua, secretary of the party branch of the third residential area of Anshan No. 1 Village, Siping Road Street, Yangpu District, and Yangpu District Firefighter Jiang Tao, the representative of the rescue detachment, and four representatives of the Shanghai May 1st Labor Medal and May 1st Labor Certificate recipients took the stage to tell their stories of struggle. The four model worker craftsmen embody the common characteristics of Yangpu's new May 1st advanced class - they resonate with the times, work down-to-earth, and firmly strive for the road of innovation.
In recent years, Yangpu has always regarded people's livability and security as the primary goal of urban renewal. The city's transformation and renewal are inseparable from the efforts of its employees. At the event, a series of short films filmed by the Yangpu District Federation of Trade Unions to praise ordinary workers, including "The Story Behind a Faucet", "How the "Sweaty BMW" Accelerated for 56 Days" and "An Arithmetic Problem of "18=1800"", were shown. Workers in the field of urban renewal are "ordinary and bright". The event also led the audience to understand how Yangpu workers solved the expropriation problem through "micro-interviews" with urban renewal craftsmen.

At the end of the event, Huang Baomei, the recipient of the "July 1st Medal" and the first national model worker, led the model worker list, Yang Chunxia, Li Yao, Yan Mingfeng and other 75 advanced model workers and front-line workers issued an initiative on the stage to create a new era of Chinese modernization. In the new chapter of Shanghai, Yangpu’s responsibility is demonstrated, Yangpu’s actions are reflected, and Yangpu’s strength is contributed.
