Short videos make reading more accessible
The development of short videos has made it possible for the public to produce knowledge, while also making the dissemination of knowledge more efficient. According to the "Reading Research in the Era of Short Video" released by Shanghai University of Technology, 65.74% of respondents believe that "short videos are an important way for me to acquire knowledge and information." More and more people are learning knowledge through short videos, which are of great significance in promoting knowledge popularization and promoting reading for all.
At the report seminar, Li Shijuan, Vice Dean of the School of Publishing at Peking University, pointed out that "as one of the national development strategies, reading for all has achieved good results in policy support, academic research, and industry promotion, but still faces a bottleneck, which is the problem of uneven regional development." Compared with high tier cities with abundant reading resources and sound services such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, there are still situations of insufficient or wasted reading resources in remote rural areas. "Scholars found during investigations that rural libraries and village reading rooms have been locked and become decorations," Li Shijuan sighed. She also cited the data from the 52nd Statistical Report on the Development of China's Internet, and proposed the "high accessibility" of short videos, which provides a greater possibility for popularizing and promoting reading in remote areas.
Li Shijuan summarized the development of digital reading into three eras: the 1.0 era characterized by digitization of paper books and e-books, the 2.0 era characterized by reader comments and communication, and the 3.0 era characterized by reader participation in knowledge production and interactive reading. "In the era of short videos, everyone can become a producer and disseminator of knowledge. After reading books, people can share their reading experiences and recommend books through short videos. They can also learn more books and content through short videos, which has a positive effect on the reading of the whole nation."
At the same time, Li Shijuan proposed suggestions from two levels: theoretical research and practical exploration. Firstly, it is suggested to strengthen the analysis of the characteristics of digital reading groups and user behavior research to enhance the effectiveness of reading promotion; The second is to emphasize the importance of education and guidance for young people, helping them develop good digital reading habits from an early age. At the same time, it is recommended to strengthen digital content supervision to ensure the security of content.
