Tibetan aid teachers brought the Shanghai method to Shigatse, and the average score of a math problem increased from 0.5 points to 5.5 points. Tibetan aid | Shigatse Shanghai Experimental School | Teacher
A year ago, Zhang Xiaobo, the leader of the tenth batch of Tibet aid - Shanghai educational talents "group" Tibet aid team, just arrived in Shigatse, Xizang, and became the principal of Shigatse Shanghai Experimental School.
The predecessor of Shanghai Experimental School in Shigatse was the South Suburb Primary School in Shigatse, established in 1981. In 2005, Shanghai's aid funds began to be earmarked. In 2009, a 12 year school was built, and now it has grown into a well-known boutique school in the Xizang Autonomous Region. Starting from 2016, Shanghai began to send educational talents in a "group style" aid to Tibet. In 2022, the tenth batch of aid to Tibet - the "group style" aid work team of Shanghai's educational talents, consisting of 30 members, came to Shanghai Experimental School in Shigatse. "Primary school running, middle school leading, and high school running together" were identified as the "three running strategy" goals, carrying out a new round of educational assistance relay.
Not long after Zhang Xiaobo arrived in Shigatse, several members of the school leadership team proposed a demand to build the school's own standardized question bank. The school uses People's Education Press textbooks, and the textbook content and teaching aids are almost unified nationwide. But when used by local students, the effect is not good, and many questions cannot be solved. If the teaching and research team of our school designs questions that are tailored to the actual level of students, and the difficulty of the questions is appropriately reduced while keeping the knowledge points unchanged, only then can we truly achieve the goal of consolidation and improvement. More importantly, after the establishment of a standardized question bank, it will leave educational resources that cannot be taken away by the aid schools.
I have an idea, but when it comes to specific operations, some teachers have different opinions. Setting questions has never been an easy task, requiring a lot of mental and physical effort, and the effectiveness is also difficult to estimate. So, during the initial work advancement meeting, some teachers directly raised their confusion and difficulties. This makes Zhang Xiaobo a bit difficult.
Zhang Xiaobo contacted his education colleagues in Shanghai and asked them to provide 6 sets of high school senior year review questions. At the same time, local teachers in Shigatse also provided 6 sets. When compared together, there was indeed a gap. From then on, the attitude of local teachers towards building a standardized question bank has changed greatly. Several teaching and research team leaders sent Zhang Xiaobo a long message expressing their determination to build a question bank. Since then, video conferences have been held every week, with Shanghai experts determining the direction, and Tibetan aid teachers and local teachers serving as team leaders to make localization adjustments. The teachers are very motivated, and the quality of their questions is getting better and better. They are gradually writing and improving school-based textbooks and homework, and establishing a comprehensive school-based resource library.

The target number of questions is 3300 sets, and more than 1300 sets have been completed so far. The construction of the question bank has not been completed yet, and the effect has gradually become apparent. "Our students' science subjects are relatively weak, and mathematics subjects are particularly prominent, making it difficult to complete geometry related questions." Bao Zunfeng, Vice President of Shanghai Experimental School in Shigatse, said that in the past, an average score of less than 0.5 points for a 10 point geometry question in the college entrance examination. The Tibetan aid teacher drew on the experience of Shanghai and summarized a set of "geometric algebra method" problem-solving ideas. Geometric problems can be solved using algebraic methods, supplemented by standardized question bank exercises. In the simulated exam, the average score of this question is close to 5.5 points. Now, at the Shanghai Experimental School in Shigatse, all students in the middle and high school stages have used the standardized test question bank.
Zhang Xiaobo is with the students.
From the coast of the East China Sea to the snowy plateau, at an average altitude of over 4000 meters in Shigatse, Shanghai's aid to Tibet - the 10th batch of educational talent "group style" aid work team has been fighting hard for nearly a year. The construction of standardized question banks is a microcosm of the daily work of Shanghai Tibetan aid teachers. Shanghai Tibetan aid officials attach great importance to the construction of local teachers and have established the Shanghai Everest Teacher Training Center to help cultivate and train local education backbone talents, and promote the improvement and efficiency of education in Shigatse. A new vocational and technical training center has been established in Sakya County to promote the high-quality development of vocational education. Using the Teacher Training Center as a platform, we strengthen subject teaching research and local teacher training through centralized teaching and research, and sending teachers to rural areas. Preschool education in kindergartens has also been listed as one of the key areas for educational aid to Tibet. Various types of preschool education and training are carried out around handcrafting, piano performance, and children's dance steps, further improving the professional level and curriculum implementation ability of teachers.
Over the past year, the scale effect, long-term effect, demonstration effect, and radiation effect of Shanghai's "group style" education aid to Tibet have further emerged, and the Shanghai Experimental School in Shigatse has continued to maintain the top scores in the middle and high school entrance exams of the autonomous region.
