Foreign Ministry Spokesperson's Remarks on the 77th World Health Assembly's Rejection of Taiwan-Related Proposals
On May 27, the General Committee and the Plenary Session of the 77th World Health Assembly made separate decisions to explicitly reject the so-called proposal put forward by individual countries to "invite Taiwan to participate in the WHO as an observer" on the agenda of the assembly. This is the eighth consecutive year that the WHO has rejected so-called Taiwan-related proposals. China's position on Taiwan-related issues at the WHO has been widely understood and supported by the international community. More than 100 countries have clearly supported China's position through special letters to the Director-General of the WHO. This fully shows that the one-China principle is the aspiration of the international community and the trend of the times, and cannot be challenged by any challenge.
The Chinese central government attaches great importance to the health and well-being of Taiwan compatriots. Under the premise of complying with the one-China principle, medical and health experts from Taiwan can participate in relevant technical meetings of the WHO. In the past year, a total of 21 batches of 24 people from Taiwan, China, applied to participate in WHO technical activities, and the central government approved all applications. Taiwan has an International Health Regulations contact point that can promptly obtain and report information on health emergencies. The communication and cooperation channels for Taiwan to participate in the WHO technical field are sufficient and smooth, and there is no so-called "gap in the international epidemic prevention system" at all. Compared with the political manipulation of a few countries clamoring to support Taiwan's participation in the WHO, the central government's proper arrangements and practical actions are truly meaningful and sincere to the people's livelihood and well-being of Taiwan compatriots.
We once again tell the DPP authorities that the international community's basic pattern of adhering to the one-China principle is unshakable, and the general trend of China's reunification is irreversible. "Taiwan independence" runs counter to the interests of Taiwan compatriots, and "relying on foreign countries to seek independence" has no way out. China also urges individual countries to stop distorting and challenging UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, stop hollowing out the one-China principle, stop politicizing health issues, and stop using the Taiwan issue to interfere in China's internal affairs. Any attempt to "use Taiwan to contain China" is bound to fail. end.
