Tehran, May 19: Jebral Nokhand, director of the National Museum of Iran, said in the capital Tehran on the 18th that cooperation between Iran and China in the field of cultural heritage is constantly deepening.
The International Museum Day and National Cultural Heritage Week commemorations were held on the 18th at the National Museum of Iran in Tehran. Jebral Nokhand told reporters at the event that both Iran and China are major cultural heritage centers in the world, one located in West Asia and the other in East Asia, and historically connected to each other through the ancient Silk Road. In April 2023, the Asian Cultural Heritage Protection Alliance was established in Xi'an, China. Iran and China are both founding members of the alliance.
Jebral Nokhand said that in recent years, the National Museum of Iran has carried out close and fruitful exchanges and cooperation with the Palace Museum in Beijing, the National Museum of China, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China, and the Shanghai Museum. He said that currently, 216 cultural relics from the National Museum of Iran are on tour in China. Through these cultural relics, Chinese audiences can understand Iran's long history and culture. At the same time, the National Museum of Iran is also cooperating with the Palace Museum in Beijing to produce a Chinese catalog on Iranian history and culture, which contains accurate information on Iranian archaeological research as well as research articles from around the world.
Jebral Nokhand expressed that Chinese tourists are welcome to visit the National Museum of Iran. He said that Chinese tourists were the largest number of foreign tourists visiting the National Museum of Iran in the past year. To this end, they produced a Chinese brochure to introduce the National Museum of Iran and also trained some Chinese docents.
During the event, the National Museum of Iran also displayed several ancient clay tablets dating back to the Achaemenid period. The ancient clay tablets were returned to Iran by the United States in September last year.
