The "smell of coffee" wafts out of the mountain villages, and the living environment has undergone earth-shaking changes. This is Gaixin Village, Donghui Town, Lancang County, Yunnan Province. There are nearly 2,000 acres of coffee land here, making it an ideal growing place for high-quality coffee. Since the east-west collaboration mechanism was "lit up" in 2023, new concepts and models have been introduced here to drive a comprehensive improvement of the overall environment of the new village.
Despite its unique geographical advantages, for a long time, due to the lack of processing capabilities, the villagers of Gaixin Village had to rely on selling fresh coffee fruits to make a living. The income was low, and the village collective also lacked public service capabilities.
It is difficult to change the status quo by just "relying on mountains to feed mountains and water to feed water". The only way out for reforming villages is "reform and innovation", tapping local resources and making the article "coffee" more thorough. Driven by the east-west collaboration mechanism, Gaixin Village has established the development goals of "Lancang specialty coffee production base" and "Chinese coffee study and travel destination", and established a "government-led, farmer-centered, market operation, enterprise participation, social "Assist" construction mechanism, committed to building a sophisticated processing plant with a complete industrial chain and distinctive coffee characteristics, as well as a "coffee travel" holiday destination.
Once the goal is set, a mechanism needs to be established to promote it at a high level. The secretary of the county party committee personally took charge and listed the renovation project as a "secretary-led construction project" and established a special work class attended by the main leaders of the township and various departments; the county magistrate visited the site many times for investigation and provided full support in terms of funds and plans; Shanghai As the main person in charge of the project, the aid cadres in Yunnan coordinated various forces such as townships, departments, enterprises, and society, and held various meetings and conducted nearly a hundred surveys to ensure the effective implementation of the plan.
The east-west collaboration mechanism is "activated" in Gaixin Village, and advanced development concepts are also "coming in one after another." The 1,500-acre medium-low-yield coffee garden was quickly transformed: through the use of organic fertilizers, replanting new seedlings, scientific pruning, etc., a high-yield, high-quality, and ecological coffee garden was presented with a new look.
Shanghai Huajian Group, a leading domestic planning and design unit, was invited to design the planning scheme for the project, and the development plan of "one axis, two cores and four zones" was determined; a transportation system that separated freight, sightseeing, and daily life was planned to meet direct discharge standards. A sewage collection and treatment system and a garbage treatment system of "household concentration, village collection, and town transfer". Based on the different colors of the coffee during its maturation process, we designed the colorful features of the villagers’ houses, planned simple and practical farmyards and public spaces, and formulated guidelines for the village style, which became the guide for new houses in the village in the form of village regulations and civil agreements.
At the same time, Gaixin Village has also built a modern standard factory building of 5,000 square meters with the production capacity of the entire industry chain, a new coffee preliminary processing plant, a coffee essence deep processing plant, auxiliary office buildings and supporting infrastructure. Shanghai Mingqian Coffee was introduced to carry out production operations and a processing production line with an annual processing capacity of 2,500 tons of green beans was built. It is reported that after the entire industry chain reaches full production, the annual output value is expected to reach 200 million yuan.
In addition, Gaixin Village has also set its sights on the construction of a coffee research and study base. Revitalizing the idle collective assets of the village, renovating and upgrading abandoned production facilities and old buildings of the newly renovated primary school, building a 1,000-square-meter coffee training and experience center, and a research base with complete supporting facilities for "food, housing, and study" for about 50 people. , introduced Shanghai’s “Village Notes” to carry out whole-village operations, and designed various business activities such as rural tourism coffee studies to promote the development of the local economy and tourism industry. Relying on the operation team, we actively planned promotion activities such as "Outside the City", "Gaixin Pig Killing Rice" and "Youth Co-Creation Meeting", and brought 15 batches of more than 600 people to Gaixin Village for study.
As the article "coffee" is written more and more deeply, the living environment of Gaixin Village has been improved as never before. The "one household, one plan" program was used to renovate the villagers' houses, install sewage treatment systems, dismantle illegally built and abandoned pig and cattle pens, and create small vegetable gardens in front of and behind the houses.
Today, the smelly ditch in Gaixin Village has been turned into a reservoir and tourist trail for the coffee factory, and the mud pond has been turned into a large lawn that can host various coffee research activities. The appearance of Gaixin Village has undergone earth-shaking changes. A tertiary industry The "Kalv" manor, which develops in a coordinated manner and advances agriculture, culture and tourism, has achieved initial results. The project benefited 390 households with a total of 1,542 people in the new village, including 229 households with 804 people lifted out of poverty.
It is understood that this year, Gaixin Village also plans to cooperate with coffee companies to adopt new technologies and test new varieties. At the same time, Shanghai enterprises will be introduced to build a probiotic organic fertilizer factory in Donghui Town to provide more foundation for improving the quality and efficiency of agriculture. The average yield of fresh coffee fruits per mu in Gaixin Village will be increased to more than 900 kilograms, and the rate of high-quality coffee will reach 30%. above.
