"President" Du Meiyu: I hope more students will love archery with me. Tongji University's "academic elites" will win the gold medal in archery at the Universiade
Today, at the Chengdu Universiade, Du Meiyu, a 2019 undergraduate student from the School of Civil Engineering at Tongji University, along with his teammates Wang Shikun and Chen Yansong, performed exceptionally well in the championship and won the gold medal in the men's composite bow team event in archery by defeating the French team 231:224 times. This is also the first gold medal won by the Chinese team in archery!
Du Meiyu, who started learning archery at an amateur archery club at the age of 13, has persisted in this hobby throughout his busy studies due to his love for archery. After being admitted to Tongji University with excellent grades and becoming the president of the school's archery association, he promoted archery among college students.
In 2013, Du Meiyu started archery with a composite bow and persisted in this passion. In 2018, Du Meiyu began to be exposed to the Reverse Bow. In preparation for the 2020 College Students Reverse Bow Online Invitational, he transplanted the previously systematic training plan of composite bows to the training method of reverse bow. He trained six times a week, each time for 3 to 6 hours. This planned and logical training helped Du Meiyu improve his performance in reverse bow very quickly.
In that competition, Du Meiyu achieved a score of 631 rings, although not outstanding, it gave Du Meiyu a great motivation.
In April 2023, under the guidance of coach Du Changhong, Du Meiyu participated in the archery event selection competition of the 31st Summer Universiade in Changchun, Jilin. Finally, with the second place total points in the men's group, she was successfully selected for the Chinese University Sports Representative Team and competed in the archery event of the 31st Summer Universiade.
Before entering Tongji University, Du Meiyu was very interested in the Tongji University Shooting Association. After enrollment, he joined the Shooting Association and found a group of like-minded good friends here.
In 2020, Du Meiyu took over as the president of the Tongji Shooting Art Association. With the full support of the school, the association had an on campus activity venue and purchased its own equipment. "The members train and work together, and all of this makes me feel very happy," said Du Meiyu. The club's activities are very rich, and the members' love for archery is also increasing day by day. Nowadays, more and more members choose to stay in the club to study together, and the number and proportion have broken past records. Our club is full of vitality.
In September this year, Du Meiyu will become a master's student. Before the Universiade, he had already successfully achieved excellent results in his direct PhD. He will be studying in the field of intelligent construction at the School of Civil Engineering, Tongji University.
Read well and continue to promote the shooting club. In Du Meiyu's heart, there has always been a desire to represent the school and the club in competitions, because this can call on more students to understand and understand the sport of archery, and help it flourish on campus.
Now, Du Meiyu's dream has finally come true.
