In the Chinese golf world, the top tournaments have always played a unique role. Its predecessor was the 2003 Shanghai Elite Golf Tour organized by the Shanghai Higher Education Association. In January of that year, Chinese golf legend Zhang Lianwei won the Singapore Masters, becoming the first mainland Chinese player to win the European Tour championship.

At that time, the Shanghai Golf Association launched the 2003 Shanghai Elite Tour, which received positive responses from professional players, amateur players, coaches, and young players in the Yangtze River Delta. A total of six tournaments were held that year, and Chen Xiaoma won the annual championship.

In 2004, China welcomed the spring of golf. That year, the European Tour officially entered China, and people felt the surging vitality of Chinese golf. Faced with the development of the new situation, the Shanghai Higher Education Association wielded its upward momentum and officially launched the Shanghai Tour in 2004, becoming the first local higher education association in China to take advantage of the situation. The competition not only provides high-level competitive platforms for players in the Greater Shanghai region, but also contributes to the sustainable development of the Shanghai team, Shanghai Golf, and even Chinese Golf.

For the past 20 years, the Shanghai Tour has adopted a streamlined, efficient, and multi-dimensional linkage concept to build a high-level competitive and technical exchange platform for male and female professional golf players, coaches, and male and female amateur golf players in the Shanghai area, jointly promoting the healthy development of golf in Shanghai.

Zeng Liqi, who represented the Shanghai team in the 2023 National Golf Championship and won the runner up in individual events in the women's China Tour, received special guidance from Shanghai team coach Ye Liying. This is another outstanding achievement of the Shanghai team in the oldest and highest level of traditional annual golf tournament within this system, following their women's team championship and men's team runner up at the 2022 National Golf Championship.

Three races throughout the year, starting from the previous tour

The outstanding performance of the Shanghai team has laid the best foundation for the launch of the new season in the new era of the previous tour. The Shanghai Golf Association has decided to restart the upper tour, actively mobilizing various forces, and inviting the former head of the China Tour, Yan Jun, to serve as the CEO of the upper tour, continuing to work hard to tap into outstanding players and promote the development of the golf project. The 2023 season of the upper tour will be organized and operated by Four Seasons Golf Club.

In the 2023 season, a total of three regular season tournaments will be held throughout the year. The first stop will be held from August 8th to 9th at Shanghai Xubao Golf Club, the second stop will be held from October 10th to 11th at Shanghai Yintao Golf Club, and the third stop will be held on December 5th and 6th at Shanghai Tianma Country Golf Club.

The number of participants in each competition does not exceed 100, and the competition will adopt two rounds of 36 hole individual stroke competition. After completing the first round of 18 holes in the regular competition, the top 68 players advance to the second round, and the top 15 players will receive a total prize of 60000 RMB. The champion of each race will receive a prize of 13200 RMB.
