The opening of the Chengdu Universiade is getting closer and closer! Today, the 31st Chengdu Summer Universiade will officially kick off, with college students from 170 countries and regions gathering in Chengdu. This is the third time that Chinese Mainland has hosted the Universiade since 2001 and 2011, and the first time that western China has hosted a comprehensive international sports event.

According to the schedule, the Chengdu Universiade events are divided into 18 events, including archery, gymnastics, athletics, badminton, basketball, diving, fencing, volleyball, water polo, and martial arts. There are a total of 269 events, which will produce 269 gold medals. The track and field event will produce the most gold medals, with a total of 50 gold medals. August 6th will produce 46 gold medals, which is also the day with the highest number of gold medals produced during the competition.

July 29th is the first competition day after the opening ceremony, and the first gold medal of the Chengdu Universiade will be won in the martial arts event. In the morning of that day, Sichuan athlete Cao Maoyuan will compete in the men's Southern Fist competition and is expected to win the first gold medal for the Chinese team.

It is reported that Cao Maoyuan started learning martial arts at the age of 5 and has persisted for more than 20 years. He is currently studying at Chengdu Sports Institute and has participated in many competitions. He has also won championships in national, provincial, and municipal competitions.

In preparation for the Universiade, Cao Maoyuan and his teammates underwent 28 days of closed training before the competition. Cao Maoyuan said he will do his best to win a heavy gold medal for the Chinese delegation in his hometown.

The average age of the Chinese delegation athletes participating in the Chengdu Universiade is 22.9 years old.
