Is there a toxic gas leak in Shanghai? Should we close the road for a month? Response from authoritative departments
On August 29th, chat records circulated in WeChat circles claiming that there was a gas leak near Chuansha in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, causing road congestion. Some fans have also left messages on the Shanghai debunking platform asking if it is true that the relevant road sections will be closed for a month.
The Shanghai debunking platform learned from the emergency management department of Pudong New Area that the rumored accident occurred at around 22:56 on August 28th. A truck carrying liquid methyltrichlorosilane in barrels was traveling about 50 meters south of S1 Chuansha Road, and one barrel leaked. Through the joint disposal of the Emergency Management Bureau, Public Security Sub bureau, Fire Rescue Detachment and other units, one leaked iron bucket was treated as hazardous waste, and no casualties occurred during the process. At around 10:25 on August 29th, road traffic gradually returned to normal and there was no situation of road closures for a month. In addition, according to the ecological department of the district, the accident did not cause any pollution to the nearby environment or water quality.
The Shanghai debunking platform has noticed that there is a rumor circulating online that the road has been blocked for a month, which comes from the display screen information of a certain map navigation. It cannot be ruled out that the information is not updated in a timely manner and is displayed incorrectly in real time. For such unexpected accidents, it is recommended that the public consult the road traffic management department to obtain accurate information.
