Ms. Dong's residential area is located in Yiyun Tingxiang Garden, Lane 1001, Huting North Road, Jiuting Town, Songjiang District, and is a villa community. She purchased the property here three years ago and has been living here for over a year after renovation. "As soon as I moved in, I found that the signal was not good, and I didn't think the problem was too big at the time." Ms. Dong thought that the weak signal was just a random phenomenon, and she persisted for a few days to get better. However, as time passed, the signal strength did not improve, and there was even a trend of deterioration.

"There are four compartments for the signal, but none of them are on my phone." Ms. Dong said that the signal on the first floor of the community is the worst, while on the second floor, there may be sporadic signals of one or two compartments if looking for a location. The third floor is slightly better. She also told reporters that during weekdays, when an elderly family member wants to contact Ms. Dong who is going out to work, the phone always cannot be dialed, and even if it can be connected occasionally, it often suddenly disconnects.
This situation is not only happening at Ms. Dong's house. Ms. Dong specifically asked the surrounding neighbors, and they generally reported that the mobile signal on the first floor was very poor. Ms. Wang, another resident, told reporters that the signal on each floor is not very good. If you want to make a phone call, you must go to the outdoor garden.
A resident is worried, "I have to hold up my phone to look for signal when making phone calls. What if there is an emergency and there is no signal?"
When testing in the community, the reporter also found that although the signal of the mobile phone remained at full capacity when outdoors, making and receiving calls had no impact. However, once the mobile phone entered the indoor area on the first floor, the signal significantly attenuated. Even near the outdoor window, two mobile phones used by different operators for testing only displayed two signals.

Ms. Dong once reported the issue of poor signal to the neighborhood committee of the community. "The neighborhood committee asked me to find the property management, but they said they don't have the authority to solve this problem." Later, Ms. Dong called the 12345 citizen service hotline, and the work order was forwarded to China Mobile for processing. She recalled that shortly after, the operator staff came to the door to check the signal. After testing, it was found that Ms. Dong's mobile phone signal was indeed poor at home. At that time, the staff who came to the door proposed to install signal receiving equipment by opening a hole in the wall, but after some testing, the signal strength could not be improved. Thus, the signal difference issue that Ms. Dong encountered has been put on hold until now.
The China Unicom number used by the reporter also encountered signal differences in some locations during testing. After calling the official customer service of China Unicom, the customer service verified and replied that the community is within the scope of Unicom's network optimization plan this year, and it is expected to complete the optimization of nearby base stations before October this year. "The base station service has a certain period of time, and if it takes a long time, it needs to be repaired. Currently, the base station in the community is being repaired, but the time frame will be longer." On June 15th, with the intervention of reporters, China Unicom staff arranged for professional personnel to enter the community to investigate the network situation, and completed targeted optimization of the three nearby base stations jointly built and shared with China Telecom in advance. The staff entered the room for testing and the signal strength reached the standard. China Unicom staff told reporters that some locations may still have insufficient signal due to the impact of the building structure. Residents can call customer service and have engineers come to install signal amplification equipment.
After checking the previous records, China Mobile staff provided feedback to reporters that this villa community is completely connected to external base stations for signals, and Ms. Dong's home happens to be in a relatively "deep" location in this community, in a weak signal coverage area. The staff stated that after receiving feedback from Ms. Dong, they had planned to add base stations, but during the promotion process, they found that due to the narrow surrounding roads, they did not have the conditions for station installation. There are space conditions for installing base station antennas within the community, but communication has encountered resistance, and some residents are unwilling to install base station antennas within the community.
The staff told reporters that in order to solve the weak signal problem at Ms. Dong's home, it was agreed that an engineer would come to her house on June 15th to install signal amplification equipment. However, this equipment can only solve Ms. Dong's own signal problem. Before the deadline, the reporter learned that the installation of signal enhancement equipment had been completed, and Ms. Dong expressed satisfaction with the signal strength.
The main reason is the lack of base stations and housing shielding
What are the factors that affect indoor signal strength? The professional department of China Mobile replied to reporters that the strength of the network signal received by mobile phones is mainly related to the distance between the user and the base station and the environment they are in. Wireless signals will continue to be lost during transmission, thereby affecting the signal reception strength. If users are indoors in residential areas, outdoor signals need to penetrate walls, metal materials, and sometimes even several layers of walls, resulting in greater signal strength loss and weakened or even no signal indoors.
Excluding some common factors, residential areas with poor indoor signal often have fewer base stations. It is not easy for operators to add base stations.
Ms. Zhang, who lives in Lane 399, Yehui Road, Qingpu District, reported that "the mobile and telecommunications signals at home are very poor, making it impossible to receive text messages and make phone calls." Ms. Zhang also specifically mentioned that she hopes the staff can call back before 7 pm in the evening, because "when they return home, there is no signal and they cannot receive calls.". Mr. Liu, who also lives in Qingpu District, reported that his home at 1366 Panlong Road, Panlong Tiandi Phase I Community, has "no signal at all". The reporter called a staff member of China Mobile responsible for the Qingpu area as a resident, and he said that there are relatively few base stations around the Panlong Tiandi Phase I community, and there are no base stations in the community, resulting in signal blind spots in some areas.

The staff member mentioned that after receiving feedback, they had originally planned to install signal reinforcement equipment on the rooftop of Mr. Liu's residential area. Many residential areas have installed signal enhancers on the rooftops, which can cover the area below like spotlights to achieve indoor signal enhancement. But due to the involvement of construction within the community and contract signing, the consent of the community property management company is required. However, the planning department provided feedback that communication with the community was unsuccessful, and the staff had to find a solution on the periphery. At present, professional technicians have added a base station on the north side of Tianshan West Road near the community, which will soon be put into service.
