On July 24th, the 2023 Huanghua Industry Development Conference and the 6th Datong Huanghua Harvest Month, jointly hosted by the Communist Party of China Datong Municipal Committee, Datong Municipal People's Government, Shanghai University of Applied Technology, World Chinese Restaurant Federation, and China Vegetable Distribution Association, officially kicked off. At the development conference that day, the China Vegetable Distribution Association awarded Datong City, Shanxi Province the title of "China's Yellow Flower Capital".

There are more than 175 entities engaged in the production, processing, and sales of Huanghua, developing more than 130 types of six major series of Huanghua dishes, food, beverages, functional foods, cosmetics, and cultural and creative products, with a total industrial chain output value exceeding 4 billion yuan. Huanghua products have been exported to countries and regions such as South Korea, Japan, and Canada, and the production and export volume have been increasing year by year. The "Datong Huanghua" brand has deeply rooted in people's hearts.
Many local residents expressed that as China's "coal capital" and a famous historical and cultural city, Datong has always been a popular destination for tourists both at home and abroad. These days, whenever it's quiet at night, the yellow flower fields in Yunzhou District, Datong City seem particularly busy. Villagers work hard to pick yellow flowers under the night sky, and the twinkling stars in the night sky and headlights in the fields shine together, creating a unique scene.
The picking season for Datong yellow flowers is from late June to early August every year. On this night, farmers picking yellow flowers step out of their homes, wearing headlights, waterproof clothing, hanging buckets or burlap bags, and walking through rows of yellow flowers. Yellow flowers are fond of the sun and will accelerate their blooming when they see sunlight. High quality yellow flowers are best in their bud state, and those that have already bloomed are not easy to preserve. Their edible and economic value will decrease, so picking yellow flowers is mostly done at night.
"Picking starts at 10 pm and continues until around 10 am the next day," said Gou Guoxiang, Party Branch Secretary of Tuofang Village, Xiping Town, Yunzhou District, Datong City. "Our village has a total of 1200 acres of yellow flower land, and the price of yellow flowers has been particularly good since last year. Currently, the price of fresh vegetables has reached 3.3 yuan per kilogram, and there is at least 5000 to 6000 yuan in income per acre of land."
It is understood that the theme of this year's Datong Huanghua Harvest Month is "Chinese Mother Flower Wealth Forgetting Grass". During this period, a series of activities will be held, including visiting the Huanghua Base to experience Huanghua picking, Huanghua Industry Development Conference, Huanghua Industry Innovation and Development Seminar, Datong Huanghua Production and Sales Matching Conference, and "Cool Summer Capital" discussing Huanghua. After more than a month, it showcased the beautiful harvest of Datong yellow flowers and the joy of farmers in multiple forms and dimensions.
