More than 3000 people were trapped in three trains in Mentougou mountain area. Fengsha Railway, which was damaged in rainstorm, resumed operation last night | more than 3000 people
On the evening of August 8th, it was learned from the Beijing Railway Bureau of China that after 71 hours of emergency repair, at around 18:30 on August 8th, as the track rolling locomotive slowly passed through the Zhuwo Station of the Fengsha Railway, the Fengsha Railway finally resumed traffic.
The Fengsha Railway was completed and opened to traffic on June 30, 1955. It is a mountainous railway and the first mainline railway in the Beijing Tianjin Hebei region. It is also an important channel for transporting coal from Shanxi to other regions.
On July 30, affected by rainstorm for several days, some sections of Fengsha Railway located in Mentougou District of Beijing were seriously damaged. Train K1178, K396 and Z180 were stranded in the mountains, and nearly 3000 passengers and attendants were stranded. Later, with the joint cooperation of the railway department, armed police soldiers, and firefighters, all passengers and crew members were able to escape the trap for 5 days and arrived at Beijing West Station and Beijing Fengtai Station respectively.
In order to restore the operation of the Fengsha Railway as soon as possible, China Railway Beijing Bureau has invested more than 5500 repair personnel, more than 400 mechanical equipment, cleared 39 breakpoints that affect train operation, and dealt with more than 60000 cubic meters of debris flows, mountain collapses, and roadbed landslides. The railway department has established a command center for emergency repair and communication in Fengsha, and organized 9 engineering units and 3 design institutes to study and develop an overall work plan and construction organization plan.

On August 8th, railway workers were repairing the last section of the damaged railway near Zhuwo Station.
The Zhuwo Station on the Fengsha Railway is adjacent to the Yongding River on one side and leans against the mountain on the other, belonging to a terrain of "half embankment and half trench". The difficulty of flood control is high, which is the difficulty of this emergency repair and also one of the key areas that determine the opening of traffic. Due to road damage and impassability, in order to rush through Zhuwo Station, road materials such as stone ballast and steel rails, as well as emergency equipment, were transported from Beijing and Shacheng directions respectively. Eventually, they converged at Zhuwo Station and connected the entire line. Liu Haibing, Deputy Minister of Transport of Beijing Railway Bureau, introduced that in response to key difficulties such as the large-scale collapse of K50+150 between Zhuwo and Yanhecheng stations, the command centers of the East and West lines have been monitoring and controlling the entire construction process, dynamically grasping the on-site construction situation, and coordinating the promotion of emergency repair and communication.
The resumption of operation of the Fengsha Railway will also provide strong support for the subsequent transportation of rescue materials.
