It is understood that the report is the first research report in recent years targeting the financial literacy of middle school students. It comprehensively analyzes the development and characteristics of financial literacy among middle school students, and has an important guiding role in understanding the level of financial literacy among middle school students in first tier cities and improving financial literacy education for young students.
Is the primary source of financial knowledge not the internet?
Different from the general cognition, the report shows that with the popularization of mobile Internet, although obtaining information about money from the Internet has become an important way for students, especially high school students, parents or other adult relatives are the first source of high school students to obtain information about money. In this survey, 95.6% of high school students reported obtaining financial knowledge from their parents or other adult relatives, which is 14.1 percentage points higher than the former. Television or radio is the third largest source of relevant information for first-year high school students, with a proportion of over 67.1%. The average proportion of reports obtained from teachers or friends is 45.6% and 47.3%. Relatively speaking, the proportion of obtaining relevant information from magazines is very low, only 26.8%.
Saving is the basic form of financial management, and good savings habits are an important manifestation of students' financial and financial literacy. The report shows that 38.3% of high school students indicate that they save an indefinite amount of money every week or month, indicating that they do not save because they have no money. The proportion of students who save a fixed amount of money every week or month, as well as the proportion of students who only save when they save money, are both around 15%. The proportion of students who never save money is only 5.7%.
The report believes that financial literacy education in high school should mainly focus on improving the financial literacy of citizens. In the context of increasingly diverse financial products and complex financial environments, it is of great practical significance to universally improve students' financial literacy. Financial literacy is an important component of student literacy, and improving their financial literacy can benefit them for a lifetime.
"Financial literacy education should not be carried out in isolation, but should focus on integrating with various disciplines, promoting cooperation with labor education, life education, ideological and political education, aesthetic education, etc. It should be combined with China's excellent traditional culture, and build an education system that combines knowledge education, practical experience, and comprehensive literacy to help children develop comprehensively in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor." Xu Tao, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, said in his speech at the annual meeting.
