Lighting up the dreams of children in mountainous areas, Shanghai primary school teachers support teaching "White Yak Hometown" Shanghai Fudan Middle School | Children | Hometown
Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous County in Wuwei City, Gansu Province is known as the "hometown of white yaks". Backed by the Qilian Mountains, there is no hustle and bustle of the city here. The indigenous people make a living by grazing, simple and peaceful. Recently, a volunteer team of over 20 young teachers broke this tranquility and added brilliant colors to the summer sky for children. They are international students from Fudan Middle School in Shanghai, Yangsi Senior High School in Shanghai, Hexian Bilingual International School in Shanghai, and some overseas students. They have launched a four-day public welfare summer camp teaching activity at Dachaigou Primary School. The rich and diverse course experiences and innovative teaching methods have illuminated the hopes and dreams of children in mountainous areas.
From breaking ice to transforming, I have won the respect and love of children
On the first day of teaching support, the young teachers and local children broke the ice and warmed up. Jesse, who is a freshman at the University of Chicago, has participated in teaching activities for the seventh time. However, this year's ice breaking ceremony still exceeded her expectations. "It doesn't seem so difficult to get along with the children anymore." She taught the children to sing an English song, and in less than a class, a neat and uniform song came from the classroom, attracting the teachers present to gather and listen. Jessie was surprised. Did breaking the ice with the children so quickly make her more approachable? She found that the children here have become more sensible and trust their teachers more. "Their thirst for knowledge has increased, and they crave to acquire knowledge outside of the classroom."

"May 4th, March 21st, Launch!" On the campus green field, Tianyi, a senior from Fudan High School in Shanghai, led his fifth grade classmates to conduct a water rocket scientific launch experiment. "Wow, success, success!" Amidst the cheers and applause of the children, the water rockets that were ready to launch popped up one by one and shot into the air, releasing colorful little parachutes one after another. "Have you all learned?" Tianyi patiently asked each student. He is not good at expressing emotions on weekdays, but when facing these lovely children, he seems to have changed his personality. In class, he taught the children hands-on practical operations; In his spare time, he taught children to play Rubik's Cube and sing English songs, winning their respect and love with his unique way and charm. Several students evaluated him as Tianyi Brother, friendly yet humorous!
Mingyue, who is studying at Yangsi Senior High School in Shanghai, is a quiet and gentle girl. When she first arrived, she still felt uncomfortable with high reflexes, but when she saw the innocent smiling faces of the children, love and a sense of responsibility arose naturally. Her lectures are vivid and she interacts frequently with the children. A child secretly handed her a small card, which read, "I like your voice and gentleness."
Sow the seeds of hope and reap the fruits of dreams

"Children are saplings, and we are their little sun. As long as we give them some sunshine, they will shine; as long as we give them some nourishment, they will grow." During the four-day teaching activity, volunteers showed their "unique skills" by teaching lower grade children to draw self portraits and tie dye them with the natural colors of plants; Teaching senior children to make aromatherapy candles, depict blue and white porcelain vases, and develop solar powered robotic dogs... With the inspiration and exploration of young teachers, children's talents are fully utilized. The hall of the achievement exhibition is filled with children's works, resembling a small science and technology art exhibition. The visitors were amazed by the children's imagination and creativity.
When we gather, we part ways. On the last day of the performance report, Wu Youqi from Class 5 of Dachaigou Primary School presented her unique skill - Tibetan solo dance - to thank the teachers. The lively dance moves instantly ignited the entire audience, expressing the joyful scene of riding horses and whipping, as well as the personality traits of being enthusiastic and hospitable. "I will remember you!" The sensible Youqi choked up and confessed, expressing the children's heartfelt feelings in simple words. Subsequently, the entire teaching team dedicated a song called "Rice Fragrance" to the students, encouraging them to love life and laugh at it. Everyone embraced each other, reluctant to part ways, and said goodbye with tears.

"Due to its remote geographical location, the teaching staff of Dachaigou Primary School is limited. Currently, there are no professional teachers in music and art, and the teaching strength of music and science is weak. The exploration topics of the public welfare summer camp are mainly science and art, with the goal of stimulating children's curiosity and creativity, while promoting full communication between students in Shanghai and Dachaigou." Principal Wan Yucheng thanked Shanghai volunteers for giving children the opportunity to access so many vivid and interesting courses. It is reported that most of these children in schools are single parents or left behind children, and they need special care. Wan Yucheng hopes that in the future, more volunteer teaching teams can lead children out of the mountains and obtain more opportunities for education and learning.
