From September 14th to 15th, the 2024 World Motocross Championship China Station kicked off in the Bay Tourist Area. More than 70 domestic and foreign riders from 33 teams from 22 countries took turns to compete on the only motorcycle cross-country track in the country that meets the FIM standards. They competed in three categories: MXGP, MX2, and Youth Group, and sprinted for the annual world championship.
In the end, the 18-year-old Lucas Cohen won the MX2 China Championship with the first point, and Jorge Prado, the 2023 champion, also won the MXGP China Championship. This is also the first time that the event has landed in Shanghai after a four-year absence.
The 2024MXGP Shanghai Station will be held at the International Off-Road Racing Circuit in Fengxian District.
The MXGP track in the venue is the only motorcycle off-road track in China that meets international standards. It is about 2 kilometers long and has 16 ramps, the highest of which is 4.5 meters high and the largest span is 60 meters, shaped like the Chinese character "贤".
The drivers raced like arrows from a bow, speeding on the muddy track. The roar of the engines and the cheers of the audience echoed throughout the venue.
After an absence of four years, although the schedule of this year's MXGP event was shortened due to the typhoon, it was still full of highlights.
This year's event welcomes many world champions, including five-time world champion, Slovenian driver Tim Geiser, French national team captain Romain Fabre who has won one world championship, two world runner-ups and four national championships, as well as three-time world champion Spanish teenager Jorge Prado born in the 2000s and five-time world champion, Dutch driver Jeffrey Herlings, known as the "Bullet" on the track, and other world-famous players.
In the end, the 18-year-old Lucas Cohen won the MX2 China Championship with the first place in points.
As an international Class A event, MXGP is the highest level off-road motorcycle event in the world.
Jorge Prado, the 2023 champion, won the MXGP China Championship.
