Although the event was postponed for one day due to the typhoon, the enthusiasm of the participants remained unabated. On September 17, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Focus on Qiantan 2024 IHG Rewards Club Shanghai Triathlon Corporate Challenge was held at the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank Oriental Sports Center. Nearly 30 corporate teams from across the city challenged their own limits with tenacity and perseverance, interpreting the ironman spirit.

This event was held in the form of a team relay race, with a total mileage of 51.5 kilometers, including 1.5 kilometers of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling, and 10 kilometers of running. The athletes chased each other on the cycling platform, with dynamic music and cheers in their ears, and the big screen in front of them had the real-time ranking of the team. The competition atmosphere was tense and enthusiastic. The open water swimming was moved to the standard swimming pool, and a closed-loop running route was designed in the Oriental Sports Center, which provided a safer environment for the participating athletes.

This year is the fourth year of the event. As one of the key projects of the Shanghai Citizens Games, the "Shanghai Summer" International Consumption Season, and the World Expo Better Life Festival, the Shanghai Triathlon Corporate Challenge has many highlights. First, the IP "Eastern Sports Triathlon" founded in 2021 has been gorgeously upgraded to the "Shanghai Triathlon Corporate Challenge"; secondly, it continues to explore the model of "building event consumption scenarios and integrating into regional economic development", and through industrial integration and resource linkage, it more vividly interprets the integrated development of "sports consumption" and "sports tourism".

Rio Tinto Shanghai has participated in the competition for four consecutive years. Huang Gelong, an employee of the company, told reporters that he is a triathlon enthusiast. Unlike individual competitions, the Shanghai Triathlon Corporate Challenge focuses more on collaboration and cooperation between teams. "Through the competition, we have not only strengthened the cohesion among colleagues, but more importantly, everyone has become more motivated to participate in sports."

Shen Feng, deputy director of the Expo Management Bureau of the China Pilot Free Trade Zone Administration Committee, said in an interview that the Shanghai Triathlon Corporate Challenge is a key sports event in the Expo area, and after three years of polishing, it has a certain influence. This year's event upgrade has created a professional and international sports event platform for triathlon enthusiasts in the city, met the needs of corporate employees for sports and socializing, demonstrated the vitality of Qiantan's international high-quality community to the outside world, and strengthened the concept of Qiantan Central Activity Area.

SPD Bank Oriental Sports Center is the only sports building selected as one of the "Top Ten New Landmark Buildings in Shanghai". It has hosted many top international events such as the 2011 World Swimming Championships, the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and the Shanghai Super Cup, and has rich experience in event support and safe hosting. Athletes can enjoy the hardware facilities used by top international athletes and fully experience the rapid development of Shanghai.

Pang Wenjuan, deputy general manager of Jiushi Sports Dongti Branch, introduced that this year, the online competition has been specially upgraded to build a "dual-line points competition" that combines online and offline competitions. Through virtual running, virtual cycling and virtual rowing machines, participants can try rich interactive experiences and feel the charm of digital sports.

This year, the organizers have also comprehensively upgraded the overall supporting services: the swimming event provides triathlon-specific safety buoys for athletes in this stage; the triathlon experience camp is upgraded, and national first-level athletes/Shanghai triathlon professional coaches are invited to provide targeted guidance to the participants; in the Dongti Metaverse, more than 600 experience coupons for Pufa Dongti's characteristic trendy sports projects including paddle boarding, karting, roller skating, skiing, rock climbing, road sprinting/skateboarding, etc. are distributed in the form of blind boxes, allowing the participants to experience the joy of other sports in addition to triathlon; at the same time, exclusive scenes and personal spaces are created in the Dongti Metaverse, and the event-exclusive IP cultural and creative "Triathlon Group" is launched.

To expand consumption scenarios, the event, based on the distribution of consumption vouchers in the Qiantan area business district last year, has gone beyond Pudong this year to reach core business districts such as the Bund and Xujiahui, with a total of nearly 18,000 consumption vouchers distributed. In addition, the event has launched a Shanghai travel route in cooperation with Jiushi Tourism Shanghai Youth Hostel, allowing participants to experience Shanghai's diverse culture in addition to the competition. The "Juli Market" was launched at the competition site, and well-known brands such as IHG, Speedo, Pudong Development Bank, Jiushi Tourism, ShakeShack, and Maisheng brought participants a full range of consumption experiences through the display and interaction of travel, fitness, and catering content.

Sports provide the stage for enterprises to perform. With the help of Jiushi Sports' experience in organizing competitions and relying on the venue resources of Shanghai Pudong Development Bank East Sports Center, the Shanghai Triathlon Enterprise Challenge, which has been held for four consecutive years, has become a platform for communication and exchange between different industries and various enterprises to seek common development. In the future, Jiushi Sports East Sports Branch will make full use of venue resources, uphold the spirit of openness, progress and collaboration, and strive to build a sports event center, a mass sports park and a sports culture landmark.

The 2024 Qiantan IHG Rewards Club Shanghai Triathlon Corporate Challenge is guided by the Organizing Committee of the 4th Shanghai Citizens Games, hosted by Shanghai Social Sports Management Center, the Propaganda Department of the Shanghai Pudong New Area Committee, the World Expo Management Bureau of the China Free Trade Zone Management Committee, and Shanghai Jiushi Sports Industry Development Co., Ltd., undertaken by the Dongti Venue Branch of Shanghai Jiushi Sports Industry Development Co., Ltd., and co-organized by the Shanghai Triathlon Association.
