Continuously surpassing oneself! Chinese university athletics team members preparing for the Universiade have something to say ->participate in | events | China
The track and field events of the Chengdu Universiade will be held from August 1st to August 6th, generating 50 gold medals, the highest number of gold medals among all events. At present, some participating athletes of the Chinese college athletics team are participating in training in Qinhuangdao, Hebei.
At the Qinhuangdao Training Base of the General Administration of Sport of China, athletes in various events such as long-distance running, javelin throwing, and triple jump are undergoing regional training. Before athletes engage in specialized training, the coach instructs them to adapt to the weather, adjust their condition, and prevent injuries.
Cao Zhenshui, coach of the China University Athletics Team's mid to long distance running marathon team at the Chengdu Universiade, said: "We need to adapt to the heat. So far, I pay attention to the weather in Chengdu every day. We've been there for a few days, and it's probably around 34 or 35 degrees Celsius.". We still need to prepare psychologically, physically, and in terms of strength.

During the pre competition training phase, the coach developed a training plan for each athlete, including strength training, specialized training, general endurance training, etc. At present, some track and field athletes have been training in Qinhuangdao for three weeks and have entered the control training phase.
Cao Zhenshui, coach of the Chinese University Athletics Team's long-distance running marathon team at the Chengdu Universiade: Every week is different. In the first two weeks, I tend to have a slightly lower ability and intensity, but in the third week, I will definitely reach the highest intensity relatively. In the fourth week, I want to make a simple adjustment in terms of quantity, intensity, and overall load. This way, I can maintain it further up in the competition area. It's like cooking rice porridge. When the heat is not enough, add a fire. When it overflows, remove the fire quickly.
The Chinese university athletics team for the Chengdu Universiade consists of 116 members, including 90 athletes from 36 universities across the country. They will participate in all 50 individual athletics events.

Du Chao, the leader of the Chinese college student athletics team at the Chengdu Universiade, said: It can be said that it is the largest and highest level in history. The training has been going on for nearly 20 days, and the team members are currently in excellent form. The enthusiasm of the students is very strong, and their training attitude is very positive. The overall training situation is good.
Li Junlin: Uncertainty is the charm of competitive sports
Among the track and field team members preparing for the Qinhuangdao training base, there is a perennial champion in the 800 meter event, Li Junlin from Tsinghua University. He has won a series of major domestic championships, including the men's 800 meters at the 14th National Games and the men's 800 meters at the National Athletics Championships. This is his third and final time participating in the Universiade, and he looks forward to fully enjoying the competition and showcasing the charm of Chinese university students.

At the Qinhuangdao Sports Base of the General Administration of Sport of China, during the pre competition training period, Li Junlin had to run 18-20 kilometers every day and also underwent weekly specialized, strength, and endurance training. After three weeks, I have adjusted to my ideal level.
Li Junlin, a participant in the 800 meter event of the Chinese University Athletics Team at the Chengdu Universiade: From June 23rd until the start of the competition, this is a small training cycle. I will definitely put my best form on the competition field of the Chengdu Universiade in the end.
Speaking of the connection with running, Li Junlin said it was purely a coincidence. In junior high school, Li Junlin was only 1.5 meters tall. His father hoped that he could grow taller through sports and signed him up for the Dalian Badminton Team. Unexpectedly, after physical exercise in the team, Li Junlin's running advantage gradually became apparent. During a representative school participation in the Dalian Sports Games, he won the city championship in the medium and long distance running event, and thus changed his training direction. While studying and training, Li Junlin gradually fell in love with the 800 meter event.

Li Junlin, a participant in the 800 meter event of the Chinese University Athletics Team at the Chengdu Universiade: Because the 800 meter event requires us to have both speed and endurance, it is very challenging for me. Moreover, 800 meters is also the fastest lane changing event. During the competition, there are many body collisions or physical contacts that may cause some uncertainty. This uncertain factor is also a good challenge for me. It is precisely this challenge that attracts me the most, which may also be the charm of 800 meters.
Feeling the charm of the 800 meter special event, Li Junlin has not experienced winter or summer vacation for ten years, and trains diligently every day, rain or shine. In 2021, at the 800 meter final of the 14th National Games, Li Junlin was in a stalemate with other players during the final sprint stage. With only one meter left, he decisively took a diving position and made the first contact with the line. In the end, he won the National Games championship with a score of 1 point 48.33.
Li Junlin, a participant in the 800 meter event of the Chinese University Athletics Team at the Chengdu Universiade, said: "At the moment of falling, there was no pain at all. It may only be when we returned to the hotel to take a shower that we felt a burning sensation. At that critical moment, we may not have thought about the consequences of falling, nor how painful it would be after falling. We may just be rushing past the finish line in our minds.". For us athletes, constantly surpassing ourselves and constantly pushing our limits is the goal we aim to achieve.

During his university years, Li Junlin participated in the Universiade twice. Due to age restrictions, this year's Chengdu Universiade will be his last time participating in the event. He cherishes this opportunity to compete and hopes to showcase the style of Chinese university athletes at his doorstep.
Li Junlin, a participant in the 800 meter event of the Chinese university track and field team at the Chengdu Universiade, said: Naples has reached the final of the Universiade, and I think it's quite satisfactory. I also want to achieve a satisfactory result on the final competition field. I hope everyone can see the power of our youth and showcase our vitality.
Summer Rain and Rain: Enjoying Solitude, Hope More People Fall in Love with Running

In the college track and field team, there is also a girl known as the "King of Circles" - Xia Yuyu from Tsinghua University. She is a participant in the women's long-distance running events of the Chengdu Universiade in the 5000 and 10000 meters. Since the training in Qinhuangdao, Hebei, her exercise volume has remained at around 30 kilometers per day, which means she runs more than half a marathon every day.
At 3:30 pm, under the scorching sun, the summer rain on the track, despite sweating profusely, was light and steady, effortlessly completing a 6-kilometer warm-up run.
Xia Yuyu, a participant in the women's 5000m and 10000m events of the Chinese University Athletics Team at the Chengdu Universiade: No matter how bad the weather is, it may be rain or high temperatures of 38 degrees Celsius, we still need to persist in training. Because the mid to long distance running project is originally an accumulation project, only quantitative change can form qualitative change. This includes the fact that if we want to break through 30 seconds, 10 seconds, or even 5 seconds in this project, we may need 3 to 5 years of accumulation. Even if it means breaking through 1 second in the end, it still takes a long time.

Running in circles on the playground every day not only tests the athlete's physical strength, but also their ability to withstand loneliness. On a standard track of 400 meters per lap, Xia Yuyu runs for 40 laps to start with, and there is no one around to run. Often, one can only hear their own breathing and heartbeat in their ears.
Xia Yuyu, a participant in the women's 5000m and 10000m events of the Chinese university track and field team at the Chengdu Universiade: I won't think about how many laps there are. I might think that every two kilometers is a small goal, and after that, every two kilometers, I feel like I ran another two kilometers today, completed another two kilometers, and then quantified the training into a decreasing form. Starting from 16 kilometers and then decreasing downwards, for example, at 16 or 14, it will feel like passing quickly.
Xia Yuyu, born in Bijie City, Guizhou, first came into contact with long-distance running when she participated in a running activity organized by her school in junior high school. With a playful attitude, she participated in the competition and unexpectedly ranked in the top three, thus starting her running career. Despite her talent, when she first started practicing the 10000 meter special, Xia Yuyu almost gave up.

Xia Yuyu, a participant in the women's 5000m and 10000m events of the Chinese university track and field team at the Chengdu Universiade: Because of the accumulation of lactic acid at that time, it was like there might be several people pulling your legs to stop you from running, and you couldn't lift them at all. The adjustment of your body was basically impossible because your physical fitness had already been exhausted, and it was more dependent on willpower to support me, saying that I must complete this competition.
In the end, Xia Yuyu's indomitable personality allowed her to persevere. She constantly challenged herself and achieved good results, including winning the women's 10000 meter championship at the 2018 National Athletics Championships and the runner up in the women's 10000 meter race at the 14th National Games. While gaining achievements, sports also gave her more insights into life.
Xia Yuyu, a participant in the women's 5000m and 10000m events of the Chinese university track and field team at the Chengdu Universiade, said that she will not easily give up on the difficulties encountered in life, thinking that these difficulties are nothing. Maybe I know it's difficult, but I still want to give it a try. I won't give up easily until the end.

This year is also Xia Yuyu's last time participating in the Universiade. She hopes to achieve good results and draw a complete conclusion to her journey towards the Universiade. She also hopes to inspire more young people to love sports and strengthen their physical fitness.
Xia Yuyu, a participant in the women's 5000m and 10000m events of the Chinese University Athletics Team at the Chengdu Universiade, said: "I hope to showcase the spirit of a Chinese youth in Chengdu, to showcase my style and level in the competition.". I hope everyone can see that our athletes' spirit of perseverance and hard work can influence them and make them fall in love with the sport of running.
