Approximately 450000 Hong Kong car owners are expected to benefit from the implementation of the "Hong Kong car northbound" policy on the bridge | port | car owners
Half a year after the implementation of the "Macau car northbound" policy, "Hong Kong car northbound" has also become a reality. Starting from July 1st, Hong Kong residents can drive through the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge port to travel between Hong Kong and Guangdong Province, further deepening the connectivity between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macao.
On the morning of the 1st, Hong Kong held a launch ceremony for the "Hong Kong Car North" initiative. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Li Jiachao, stated that "Hong Kong cars heading north" allow Hong Kong citizens to easily drive to the mainland for tourism, business, family visits, etc., and can also bring people closer together.
The Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Lin Shixiong, stated that "Hong Kong vehicles heading north" is an important initiative for the integration of the Greater Bay Area and has been very popular since its launch. As of late June, the Transport Department has received over 4000 applications. He stated that the SAR government has always adhered to the principle of making good use of and managing the bridge, and is committed to increasing the regular quota of vehicles from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Hong Kong and Macao that can use the bridge.

According to calculations, after the implementation of the "Hong Kong Motor Vehicles Going North" policy, it is expected that about 450000 Hong Kong motor vehicle owners will enjoy this policy dividend.
The policy of "Hong Kong vehicles heading north" applies to non operational private cars. Hong Kong residents over the age of 18 are required to hold a Hong Kong Macau Residents Travel Permit to Mainland China and obtain driving licenses for both Hong Kong and Mainland China before applying for a Mainland China Entry and Exit Permit for their registered Hong Kong private car. Vehicles passing through the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge can enter and exit Guangdong multiple times. After each entry, the continuous stay shall not exceed 30 days, and the cumulative stay shall not exceed 180 days per year.

The "Hong Kong car northbound" policy also creates more convenient travel conditions for car owners in various aspects.
Firstly, a "no guarantee" policy will be implemented for Hong Kong motor vehicles that meet the entry requirements, and electronic license plates will be issued to effectively reduce the time and cost of Hong Kong residents driving to the mainland. Meanwhile, benefiting from the Hong Kong cross-border vehicle insurance "equivalent first recognition" policy, eligible Hong Kong car owners do not need to purchase compulsory traffic insurance separately in mainland China. In addition, the toll station of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge supports various payment methods such as Mainland China National Standard ETC and Hong Kong Express ETC, as well as cash and electronic payments, providing convenience for car owners traveling between Guangdong Province and Hong Kong via the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge.
The implementation of the policies of "Macau cars heading north" and "Hong Kong cars heading north" will accelerate the connectivity of people, logistics, and funds in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, further promoting personnel exchanges and economic and trade cooperation among the three regions.
Data shows that since the implementation of the "Macau Car North" policy on January 1 this year, the number of Macau single license plate cars entering and exiting through the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge is increasing in a stepwise manner. In the first month of policy implementation, the number of single license plate vehicles cleared in Macau reached over 7800, and in May, the number of single license plate vehicles cleared in Macau exceeded 100000.
