They went to the deaf mute coffee shop for a heartwarming latte, and then went to the rehabilitation center on the third floor for medication and screening. Before leaving, they could also repair leather goods and shoes in the convenience service area on the second floor, completing their daily needs in a one-stop manner.
The "Party Mass Service Center · Neighborhood Exchange" system is a key livelihood project in Xuhui District in recent years. In Xujiahui Street, with the opening of the Tushanwan Party and Mass Service Center · Neighborhood Hui, the street has simultaneously launched the "Brilliant Life Companion" project, exploring influencers, enterprises, resident units, and small merchants in the community to provide services and care for those in need.
How can Xujiahui Street, which has bustling commercial districts and convenient living conditions within its jurisdiction, make convenient services more precise and quench thirst, rather than just adding icing on the cake? "One stop" service to solve the problem of resource dispersion
Aunt Zhu, who has lived in the Tushanwan area for 18 years, has been eagerly anticipating the newly opened neighborhood. "This is a place for our residents' daily activities, and the most important thing is that it covers everything. It can be used for medical treatment, medication, meals, minor repairs, haircuts, reading books, having a cup of coffee during leisure time, and browsing public welfare supermarkets. These functions are very thoughtful and considerate."
The Xujiahui Street, where Tushanwan is located, is a typical comprehensive modern community in Shanghai. The Shanghai 2035 General Plan has clearly listed Xujiahui as a central activity area. Nowadays, the commercial and commercial buildings in Xujiahui area are concentrated, educational, scientific, cultural and health institutions are dense, transportation systems are well connected, and living facilities are convenient. Why does Aunt Zhu still look forward to Tushanwan Neighborhood Hui for a long time?
"Xujiahui is indeed very lively and convenient, with a variety of services available. However, in the area of Tushanwan, there has always been a lack of 'one-stop' services, concentrating all functions." Aunt Zhu said that residents usually have to go to different places to eat, haircut, repair appliances, wash large clothes, and mend shoes. Especially in recent years, the Party and Mass Service Centers and Neighborhood Complex in Xujiahui, such as Leshan, Xuhongbei, and Zhaoxiang, have been successively completed. During the preliminary construction consultation at Tushanwan Neighborhood Community, young and elderly people in the community expressed their common wish through WeChat and offline meetings: to build a "one-stop" service complex, allowing residents to solve all basic needs of people's livelihood at once, especially allowing the elderly to walk less. Wan Xiaolan, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Xujiahui Street, led the street and community cadres to conduct multiple detailed investigations, and identified three core demands of Tushanwan residents, including the lack of nearby meals, medical treatment, and repair facilities.
The newly completed Tushanwan Neighborhood Hui has a spacious and bright lobby on the first floor, which serves as a dining area for the cafeteria and community coffee shop, as well as a place for daily leisure activities of residents. The newly opened Tushanwan Community Canteen adopts a fully intelligent kitchen and is equipped with a digital management system. It can automatically identify the food items during checkout, making it convenient for the elderly to swipe their meal cards to pay for their meals.
As the birthplace of Shanghai style culture and the intersection of Western arts and crafts, the artistic elements of Tushanwan are also reflected in the neighborhood. Xujiahui Street collaborates with the resident unit Shanghai Vocational College of Arts and Crafts to provide residents with an experience of "intangible cultural heritage master courses". Residents can choose to participate in various forms such as public welfare courses and paid courses. The "Warm Card" is also a major highlight of the Tushanwan Neighborhood Gathering. This includes projects such as opening a charity supermarket on the first floor and the "Yibei Coffee" deaf mute training base. The third floor rehabilitation center also combines the professional strength of the community health center to participate in the "Smart Health Park" project for people with disabilities, forming a "one-stop" health and wellness service that integrates health and leisure social interaction.
Among the above-mentioned disability assistance services, the most intuitive experience for residents is the deaf mute coffee shop "Yibei Coffee" located on the first floor of Neighborhood Hui along the street. The founder of the project, Hou Liang, is a deaf mute designer and barista. Due to a serious illness in his childhood, he could no longer listen to the voices of the world. However, after his first coffee shop, Lanna Coffee, successfully opened in 2021, a sense of mission to help more disabled people like him start businesses and find employment sprouted in his heart. Therefore, when Xujiahui Street contacted Hou Liang, he resolutely decided to become the "manager" of the deaf mute coffee shop in this community.
Zhao Feng, a staff member of the Disabled Persons' Federation in Xujiahui Street, told reporters that the reason for choosing disability services as one of the distinctive highlights of Tushanwan Neighborhood Hui is because during the preliminary investigation of the street, it was found that although 75% of the disabled people in the jurisdiction are retired elderly, the younger generation of disabled people face great difficulties in employment and mainly rely on subsistence allowances. In order to encourage capable people with disabilities to work and start businesses, the street planned to open a coffee shop at the beginning of the preparation for the Tushanwan Neighborhood Gathering. The government will cover heavy assets such as venue fees, decoration fees, and equipment costs, and cooperate with public welfare organizations to enable deaf and mute baristas to establish enterprises with social organizations.
Nowadays, Hou Liang is not only the manager of Yibei Coffee, but also holds a 5% stake in the company, making him a true partner. And he is also responsible for the main profit distribution of the coffee shop, which means that he is responsible for the profit and loss of the business. Xujiahui Street has cultivated and selected four disabled baristas in its jurisdiction through investigation and screening. On July 9th, they just obtained the barista qualification certificate, and one of the post-00s disabled baristas is about to start working.
"If this store is successful, it means that entrepreneurship for people with disabilities can not only support themselves, but also help more people with disabilities find employment," Zhao Feng said.
