The outdoor space of the China Maritime Museum is open for free at night for the first time, and the exhibition of maritime heavy equipment showcases the new ocean | China | Museum
On June 13th, under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission and the Shanghai Municipal Oceanic Bureau, the "Exploration of Deep Blue: China Ocean Science and Deep Diving Exhibition" jointly organized by the China Maritime Museum and the Shanghai Marine Management Affairs Center was officially launched at the China Maritime Museum. The exhibition will be held in the second temporary exhibition hall of the museum and will last until October 8, 2023.
This exhibition is the second exhibition of the "Contemporary China Maritime Equipment Series Exhibition" launched by the China Maritime Museum, following the "Blue Ship Theory". The exhibition is divided into four parts: "Comprehensive Science Examination", "Professional Science Examination", "Special Science Examination", and "Guarding the Blue Ocean". From the perspectives of technology, equipment, and nature, it focuses on showcasing the brilliant achievements of contemporary China's marine science examination and deep diving industry, explaining the harmonious coexistence between humans and the ocean, strengthening ocean awareness education, and helping to promote the prosperity and development of marine culture.
The exhibition showcases numerous contemporary models of maritime heavy objects such as the "Struggler", "Jiaolong", "Dongfanghong 3", "Xuelong 2", "Yuanwang 6", "Dayang 1", and emergency rescue procedures, as well as precious biological specimens such as tortoises, sea turtles, spotted seals, hammerhead sharks, and nautilus.
Among them, the "Struggler" is a new type of manned deep-sea submersible independently designed and built by China. In 2020, it successfully sank to 10909 meters in the Mariana Trench, setting a new record for manned deep-sea diving in China. The Dongfanghong 3 is the world's largest silent scientific research vessel, with multiple internationally leading indicators, especially the highest level of low noise control indicators in the world. The emergency response process vividly demonstrates the process of saturated diving mother ships and divers rescuing the wrecked vessel, reflecting that China's saturated diving rescue and salvage technology has reached the international advanced level.
This exhibition places great emphasis on the viewing experience of the audience, creating scenes such as the Deep Sea World, Coastal Wetlands, Giant Algae Forest, Jellyfish Lightbox, Colorful Coral Reef, Polar World, Aerospace Surveying, and the "Blue Beauty" Magic Wall, aiming to bring an immersive viewing experience to the audience. In addition, interactive exhibition items such as "measuring seawater salinity and temperature", "shell family", "shell classification", "underwater treasure hunting", and "taking photos with penguin families" have been set up, allowing visitors to master more ocean knowledge through hands-on experience.
"In recent years, China's marine scientific research and deep diving equipment have undergone rapid changes, and the ability to independently research and develop construction has made a leap forward. We hope to expand marine cultural and museum resources and strengthen ocean awareness education." The relevant person in charge of the China Maritime Museum said, "Taking the opening of the exhibition as an opportunity to further enrich the cultural life of citizens at night, the China Maritime Museum will pilot the opening of outdoor areas to the public for free between 16:30-20:00 from June 13th. In the future, the museum will continue to launch educational activities, live exhibitions, and science popularization videos around exhibition planning."
Entering Zhonghai Expo after nightfall, one has a unique mood. On the wooden boardwalk to the west of the museum, one can fully enjoy the sparkling spring lotus river under the sunset; From West 1st Road to East, you can see more than 20 large marine objects such as lifeboats, large iron anchors, propellers, anti-ship missiles, 5224 torpedo boats, lighthouses, etc; Passing through the lighthouse, what catches the eye is the restored "century old Niuzhuang Lightship"; Walking to the southernmost waterfront platform, overlooking the beautiful urban park in the Lingang New Area, and experiencing "the city, making life better".
The reporter learned that the night trial operation of China Overseas Expo will continue until the end of October 2023. This is the first time that the museum has explored the beneficial measures of free outdoor space opening, hoping to create a good place for residents at their doorstep to relax at night. During the period of June 13th to October 8th, the second temporary exhibition hall of the museum, "Exploring Deep Blue: China Ocean Science and Deep Diving Exhibition," will also be open to visitors for free at night.
