Data replication, isn't it just "Ctrl+C" and "Ctrl+V"? Not so. When the amount of data that needs to be replicated is too large and complex, and even the data itself is constantly being updated, data replication is no longer a simple task, but requires professional products and technology. Data replication has developed into a segmented field in the data industry, and many enterprises have already laid out their presence in the data replication track. The "technology giant" enterprise incubated in Huangpu District, British Software, is one of the outstanding representatives.
In 2011, Hu Junqing, Chairman and CEO of British Software, won a national innovation and entrepreneurship competition and was given the opportunity to settle in the Huangpu District Science and Technology Capital Innovation Incubation Base. Since then, he has been focusing on this and continuously exploring data replication business. Zhang Bin, Vice President of British Software, told reporters that British Software has now grown from four people at the time to over 600 employees, serving more than 5000 companies worldwide, breaking the long-term monopoly of foreign companies on data replication technology. In January of this year, British software was also listed on the Science and Technology Innovation Board of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, becoming the first domestic data replication software company to go public.
Zhang Bin told reporters that copying a set of data from one data source to another requires multiple stages such as data monitoring, acquisition, transmission, storage, and verification. The data replication software and technology are the ones that safeguard this process. In British software, data replication is mainly reflected in four types of businesses.

"The first is backup, which means that when your data is attacked or fails, it can be quickly recovered from the backup data. The second is disaster recovery, which means that when a system fails, it can quickly take over business based on other systems to ensure continuity. The third is big data, and we have developed software to provide data collection, replication, distribution, disaster recovery and other services during the data platform construction process. The last is cloud disaster recovery, which is based on multi-level data replication capabilities, providing data migration, sharing, protection, and management between different cloud platforms." Zhang Bin said.
Taking medical data as an example, a provincial medical insurance platform has nearly 100 billion pieces of data, which must be complete and consistent during transmission. In terms of disaster recovery, there are very few enterprises that can control the takeover time at the minute level like British software and can smoothly and securely replicate between databases. For example, in the financial field, securities companies need to receive raw data from stock exchanges, then distribute and update it in real-time to their own servers, and ultimately be seen by users, often with a delay of about half a second. Through the data replication technology of British software, this type of data distribution and update speed can be faster, slow down latency, and allow users to see the market situation more quickly, so as to make corresponding actions in a timely manner.
In 2020, the British software also won the bid for the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China document copying project. In a certain scenario, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China needs to synchronize Shanghai's data in real-time to two data centers in Beijing and Zhuhai. If traditional methods were used, this process would take more than 20 days, and the British software team ultimately achieved real-time synchronization of data from multiple data centers in multiple locations of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

At the beginning of its establishment, British software established a path of adhering to independent research and development and technological innovation. Zhang Bin told reporters that the current British software has built a "moat" in the data replication track based on independent innovation. For over a decade, the company has formed a series of core technology systems represented by dynamic file byte level replication, database semantic level replication, and volume layer block level replication. In recent years, the research and development investment in British software has remained above 30%. In 2022, the proportion of R&D investment in the company's operating revenue climbed to 36.8%, with R&D intensity ranking among the top in A-shares.
Zhang Bin told reporters that with the help of Huangpu's efforts to build a science and technology innovation platform, British software will continue to increase investment in the research and development of data and basic software, based in Huangpu, and better serve financial and government enterprise users. "We will take root in Huangpu and Shanghai, continuously increase the company's research and development investment in new technologies and products, strengthen its core competitiveness in the field of data replication, break down data silos, create a secure, reliable, interconnected, and instantly available real-time data interaction environment, and walk the innovative path of private enterprises in the new era."
