Shanghai focuses on people's livelihoods, with "husband's house" becoming "elevator house", bidding farewell to the 26 year history of "liquefied gas tank" elevator | residents | Shanghai
Recently, there have been frequent reports of successful livelihood projects in Yueyang Street, Songjiang District: the Zuibaiyuan community has successfully opened up natural gas, and 90 households have bid farewell to their 26 year history of liquefied gas tanks; The first elevator installed in Zhenhua Community has been delivered and put into use, fulfilling the dream of elevators for residents
The person in charge of Yueyang Street stated that in recent years, Yueyang Street in Songjiang District has focused on the urgent needs and anxieties of the people, focused on ensuring and improving people's livelihoods, assisted in the implementation and effectiveness of a number of practical projects related to people's livelihoods, and made every effort to improve the quality of life of residents.
Farewell to the past, liquefied gas cylinders
"Previously, using liquefied gas tanks was extremely inconvenient. Every time I replaced a gas tank, I had to first remove the safety valve and then reinstall it, always worried about the risk of leakage. As I grew older, I couldn't handle the transportation of steel cylinders up and down the stairs, and demanded additional fees for gas delivery." Zhang Junyong, a resident of Zuibaiyuan Community, poured bitter water on the various inconveniences of using liquefied gas tanks in the past. Now that natural gas is available, these troubles have disappeared, completely bidding farewell to the history of using steel cylinder liquefied gas in the past.
"We see the hardships of residents in our eyes, but we are also anxious in our hearts." The relevant person in charge of Yueyang Street told reporters that due to the old infrastructure of the community, narrow branch roads, inconvenient pipeline excavation, and difficult drainage design, the natural gas ventilation project in Zuibaiyuan has always been a "hot potato" that the construction party does not want to touch. Later, after extensive visits and research, Yueyang Street decided to list the installation of gas for Zuibaiyuan as one of the top ten practical projects of the year, and to overcome all difficulties and tackle this tough task.
After the launch of the natural gas opening project, Yueyang Street invested and commissioned a gas company to enter the site for construction and renovation, and established a coordination group composed of multiple departments such as the community and street development office to eliminate difficulties and ensure progress in project construction. "The narrow roads in the community have affected residents' parking, so they have been renovated one by one according to the main roads. If there is a lack of air source, they need to coordinate with other units. The ventilation methods for old houses are different, so they need to be designed one by one. As each problem is solved one by one, the ventilation project has finally been successfully completed," said Shen Jianmei, the Party branch secretary of the Zuibaichi residential area.

Nowadays, Aunt Zhang, a resident of the community who has been connected to natural gas, has replaced her home with a brand new gas water heater. She can also use hot water for washing vegetables. "It's so convenient to use natural gas, so you don't have to climb up and down to move liquefied gas tanks anymore," she said
"Husband's Room" Transforms into "Elevator Room"
"We're also staying in the elevator room!" said Shen Guanghui, a resident on the 6th floor of Building 65 in Zhenhua Community, excitedly.
Recently, as the first elevator installed in the residential area is about to be delivered and put into use, representatives from 12 households in the hallway gathered together to collect elevator keys and communicate about elevator usage precautions. Excitement and joy were beyond words. From signing the contract in 2021, breaking ground, suspending and resuming construction due to the epidemic, to opening up, the long-awaited elevator dream of residents has finally come true.
Zhenhua Community is an old and scattered public housing in the jurisdiction of Yueyang Street. Most of the houses are old-fashioned six story buildings, making it inconvenient for elderly residents living in high-rise buildings to go up and down. The demand for installing elevators is also increasing. "We heard that the old house can be equipped with elevators, so we immediately consulted with the neighborhood committee about the relevant situation and policies." Shen Guanghui told reporters that soon, the staff of the Jiangjing residential area, which belongs to the community, reported the situation of the corridor to the street urban construction center. After careful research, it was determined that it met the conditions, and the process of adding elevators to Building 65 began.
As a "red collar property" in Songjiang District, Xiangxi Property has also actively joined the installation of elevators, and the "three carriages" of community governance have worked together to solve various problems. "We work with senior property owners and community officials to provide on-site services for other residents, promising to do a good job in cleaning and other aspects during the installation of elevators, and strengthen the maintenance and management of elevators after landing," said the relevant person in charge of Xiangxi Property.

At the elevator opening ceremony, representatives from Fangzheng Elevator, Xiangxi Property, the corridor elevator adding work group, and representatives from 12 households all attended. While recalling the bits and pieces of cooperation between all parties during the elevator adding period, they freely expressed their opinions and reached a consensus on the subsequent costs of the elevator opening.
"The dream of adding stairs can be realized, and we would like to express our special gratitude to the strong support of the four neighbors on the ground floor!" said Xi Yongwen, the leader of the adding stairs working group, with emotion. "Everyone gets old, and I'm also 80 years old this year. We need to empathize with each other, and being good to everyone is truly good." Li Xinrui, a veteran party member living on the ground floor, said that neighbors understand each other and have harmonious relationships. Naturally, he and his wife strongly support elevator work.
It is understood that Yueyang Street has been continuously promoting the livelihood project of "adding elevators to old houses" since 2020. In the first half of this year, several elevators were completed and delivered in residential areas such as Rongle and Jiangjing, with a total of 17 signed projects and a total of 9 completed.
"Seeing the first elevator landing, two more corridors in our residential area are preparing to initiate consultation on adding elevators. We hope that more and more 'husband's rooms' can be transformed into' elevator rooms', allowing more elderly people to freely go up and down the stairs," said the relevant person in charge of Jiang Jing's residential area.
